Any Sci-fi fans on board?

I was a big fan of Star Trek and now that's all over what's next...I hope they bring back Firefly...I don't think we got it here...I just bought the box set of DVD's for a bargain price.

Downunder we're still waiting for Battlestar Galactica to come back on..(second season)

Sci Fi, you bet (hey, how else can you explain my avatar)! Even those horrid old 50's flicks. Judy more than I.

I haven't seen the movie, but plan on it ASAP. I liked the (short lived) series. The buzz I hear is there are movie sequels planned if the first does well.

We watch Battle Star Gallactica here as well. It is about the only remake I've seen that is better than the original (IMHO).

Oh yes, as a side note. Serenity is using bloggers as a key element in their ad campaign. It's a first as far as I'm aware. The movie company invited large bloggers (and not just "movie" related bloggers) and their readers to free, advance screenings. The only caveat is the bloggers write/blog about the flick.

Pretty interesting concept. It tends to say the "blogospere" is growing in size and influence. I also suspect sci fi is a better fit to bloggers than other types of film.

Battlestar's second season was really short. I think the season finale is on tomorrow. Too bad Starbuck died....ooops. JUST KIDDING!

Yes and I might see it again....I never usually do that...I thought the acting was pretty good.

No...not at all...I've only seen a couple of the TV series...the movie is just like one big TV eposode...it's a big budget film...it's got very good ratings down here from film critics..I'm sure it will do well.

It's the best sci-fi that I've seen in a long time...the movie has toned down the western thing a little I thought.

See it and let me know what you think.

Seen some of FireFly.
It is slightly better than Andromeda.
The movie looks pretty good.

Battlestar Galactica is GREAT.
It is what Star Trek : Enterprise should have been.
Lower tech, barely warp (jump capable), and constant stress.
Instead of the trek 'cowboy' type of of attitude they gave all the characters.

Galactica is GREAT, did I mention that?

I like the Firefly series too and may actually go to the theater to see Serenity after swearing off expensive movies shared with a bunch of total buttholes in theaters! I usually wait for the DVD version.

And I am another Galatica fan also. The original was a joke. This version is excellent. I also watch the Stargate series of shows. Virtually the only TV I watch regularly is SciFi.

And I hate that they screwed up Enterprise! How could they take a show with so much potential and do so little with it?

Personally, I really liked Babylon 5. It had a different format then all the others, and an interesting story line that took 5 years to tell.

mark - How could I forget Babylon 5?! I had planned to include it and forgot before I finished typing! What a great story and characters! The creator had the entire story arc in place before they started.

Never watched Firefly so no aching desire to see the Serenity movie but...

Star Wars:
Loved the originals (duhhh), enjoyed the first two prequels, the third was OK but you knew how it was going to end (and dont even get me started on that 3 hr monstrosity that was Titanic that me and most every other male was dragged to). Got more pleasure watching the restored original trilogy with all the little extras restored or replaced. Did you know Jabba was originally a humanoid character??

Star Trek:
TOS, classic, the foundation, remarkable for its time and endurance. Shatner not withstanding!!
TNG: 1st season kinda sucked but at the time it was the balls!! Borg, Q, Romulans, oh my!!! First Contact has to be my favorite of all the movies. The last one, boy could you have at least tried to put some effort into guys??
DS9: Currently my favorite of the series. Darker,edgier side of the ST. Gotta love the Defiant. Worf came back. What an ending story arc. Still dont know if Sisko is alive dead or just off with the Prophets meditating. Think they really brought out some of the best and worst of humanity in that series.
VOY: A female captain??Why the hell not but did they have to name her ship after a minivan?? Did enjoy the series but not running out to buy the DVD's just yet. Had some really great episodes in there especially the last few years with Seven (Jeri Ryan in that tight spandex thingy....rrrrrrrrr, wow!!). Coold have really made this show suck but in all, well done.
ENT: Yeah, they screwd the pooch on this one. Thought the first season showed a lot of promise but just didnt seem to take off. I think they should have held off a year or two before starting this off. Give the writers and producers more time to recharge and come up with some better stories and plots. Loved the alternate universe stuff at the very end. That was the type of stuff we all waited for.

Ok the original was really cheesy looking back but at the time seem like good stuff. This remake has just been amazing. i havent looked forward to a weekly show like that since ER was fairly new. Boy this last season flew by. Wasnt it awful short??? Starbuck is a hot, kick em in the balls fighter pilot, Boomer is a Cyclon....talk about putting some new twists on an old show and doing it right!!!

CGI and all this fancy digital stuff has really made sci-fi seem less than fiction and more like fact. Loving it!!

The promos look good..I may just spend a few bucks to go in and see it. Cheesy as it sounds....I think the best Sci-Fi series I ever saw was Star Trek - TOS and Farscape (Far Horizon to you folks downunder)

I saw it last Friday, opening day here, and I'm seeing it again this Saturday with a group of friends. Well worth it. The acting is great, the cast is tight, and I hope for at least one sequel, if not more.

My wife and I saw it last night. It was a good movie!

We went to a Sunday late afternoon matinee, so the irritating patrons were at a minimum.

Hope they make a sequel!

But, I should note Mr. Ellison wrote for at least two of those not "real" sci-fi references above (the original "Star Trek" and "Babylon 5").

Farscape was AWESOME...loved it..even if most of the actors had down under accents.

speaking of books now, I quite enjoyed the "John Carter of Mars" series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Read them years ago and loved them.

Ah, yes... Methuselah's Children. I was in something like eighth grade when I stumbled on Red Planet. Next one I found was Have Space Suit, Will Travel. I still use the mnemonic "Mother Very Thoughtfully Made A Jelly Sandwich Under No Protest" to remember the order of the planets.
