Jus' wanna whine......

Post by Pat »

So the weekend slips by and I haven't taken the bike out for a ride yet. I was busy trying to hold a mini garage sale, cleaning things up, putz'n around the house..... I'm mess'n with the Triumph, finding things to tweek, etc.

Monday arrives, and I don't hafta go to work. Well, I mow the lawn, trim the hedges, clean the fountain..... I buy a big round thermometer for the garage so I can note at what temperature I'm checking the psi in my motorcycle tires ("rule of 10%" don'tyaknow).

I repack my new leather "Pony Express" saddlebags, put another coat of wax on the Black Trumpet, install some 3M vinyl film where my zippers scratch the tank.....
After I heat up some chili & corn bread from the day prior, I get dressed to go for a ride (finally!). Before I go, I stick 4 ounces of Seafoam into the gas tank..... it's got over 3,500 miles now so I introduce it to the miracle elixir.

What a ride too! Forty miles of freeway drone then I split off for a winding twisty road of fun, Fun, FUN! OhmyGod, this road was MADE for short wheel base sub-900cc bikes! I hit some cattle guards pretty hard, bumped my way over some undulations, dragged a foot-peg on a left-hander..... having fun. When I get to the end of my 27 mile roller coaster ride, I wanna check the tire pressures to make sure I'm within the desirable 10% of cold psi.

- my right (brand new) leather "Pony Express" saddle-bag was missing -

Over the weekend, I arranged in it:
an electric tire pump, digital air pressure gage, a bottle of "Slime", cargo net, Leatherman knife/tool, crescent wrench, loctite, zip ties, rag, warmer gloves with additional liners, a neck wrap, and my EXPENSIVE (NASA designed) BMW (thin) inner-jacket wind-breaker!
- GONE -

Insult to injury, when I returned to 'The Junction' for a much deserved burger & fries (& beer), after retracing my steps to look for the missing bag...... I realized (after she made the burger for me) that I had only three bucks on me. D'OH!
Oddly enough, that had to be the best burger and most perfect fries I've had in a looooong time! I'll send her off a check today, and hope that somebody will have found my bag at the bottom of one of the ravines...... with absolutely NO contact information amidst all that cool stuff I packed in the bag.

What a great ride though! Stuff happens.

Pat - I can explain this. I used all your luck this weekend. I was at a parents weekend at my youngest son's college back East, and we were at a football game. At halftime we went for a long walk around the fireld and the adjoining athletic complex. After the game, I realized my BlackBerry device, which I use for EVERYTHING, was gone from its little holster. I crawled down under the bleachers bit there was no BlackBerry down there with the combs, chump change, and used condoms. Then I decided to walk the route I had walked with my son at halftime. About a half mile into the walk, in the middle of a field, there was my BlackBerry, face down in the tall grass!

Oh - by the way - the content kit of your bag is just about identical to the contents of my top box when I am out touring. Great minds think alike. I hope whoever uses the bag can use some of the gear. Hope no kids try to drink the slime

Ride safe - always hold your sack!

What?! That totally sucks!

I know what it feels like to loose a bag. Still somewhat ashamed to admit it, I lost a system case containing a digital camera, brand new Geeza stretch m/c cover, my checkbook (with all my pertinent info), and various other personal items. Q) Did I receive a call? A) a big NO. What really upsets me is that someone saw it come off and grabbed it. This happened in a business district in Sacramento. I turned around as soon as I discovered it gone to retrace my path - 10 minutes tops.

There's my whine - or funneled rage!

Any idea what section of Del Puerto Cyn it separated your company?

Maybe we can do a recon...

Bob,
Actually I'm a fortunate sort..... Like your Blackberry, I lost a favorite knife on a distant Poker Run (second one to slip outa my pocket because it was that clip-to-yer pocket type). While walking around, smoking my cigar..... trying to look my best Bikerish, I saw sitting on a shelf at the back of a vendor's tent, MY KNIFE! Somebody found it, gave it to him, and he put it on display for it's owner to happen by.... and I did! Cool.
Glad to hear you and your BlackBerry were reunited.

"Ride safe - always hold your sack!"
Too funny......!

Rich,
Did ya get my email? I ordered yet ANOTHER set of shocks for the Bonnie', those cheap Hagons were...... cheap. At least for my weight, bags, and spirited rides along bumpy roads. I need better damping adjustability.
You know that part of the road after the park, where I usually like to scream up that hill with it's twisties? OhMyGod, did me and the Bonnie' SCREAM! Bumping, accelerating, dragging my foot peg, HAVING FUN at break-neck speeds (and yes, there were two CHP's at various points of the road  ). I think I may have lost the bag there, or when hitting one of those cattle guards that are now sunk below the level of the road.

Damn.....
Gotta learn to hold my sack better.

damn
