First ten on the grid have no Yamaha representation, but the Ducs, Hondas and the Suzukis are there. Hopkins get gridded at 2. Rossi at eleven? Edwards at thirteen? This one is going to be pretty interesting.

Yeah....What's happened to Rossi...so far back he's in the next state...it's going to be a great race for sure.

Loris has just re signed with Ducati...I'd love to see him win one.

Well, I am surprised to see Rossi back that far. I am pretty sure that he and his crew will make changes and he WILL charge to the front. A podium finish will assure him the title. He is going to really want to come back and win this thing for the home factory.

I recall watching Mike Ã¢â‚¬Å“The BikeÃ¢â‚¬Â Hailwood, who was starting last in one race. At the end of the first lap, he was leading. He went on to win riding the mighty MV Agusta.

Good Lord, what a sound from that machine, like nothing else. If Hailwood could do it, so can Rossi.

Something fishy there. All of a sudden out of form? Can you imagine the PR value if he wins? Mmmmm.....

Well, that was an odd race. Dry as a bone and almost half the riders DNF. Including the Doktor. I'm glad that Capirossi and Ducati got one. And I'm glad that the Americans all made the top ten, but that was one peculiar race. And I'll even give Biaggi a great deal of credit for managing to stay in front for so long (before Capirossi snuck by and kept on going). Rossi pulled to fourth from eleventh on the grid and looked like he'd end up with 3rd, maybe even 2nd, but then he tags Melandri and both shot off the track. Rossi was up on his feet immediately, but Melandri looked hurt and was stretchered away.

The conditions didn't seem to warrant all that mayhem. Has anyone here been to Motegi? It looks like it is pretty tight and technical. I was surprised to see that there didn't appear to be much of a crowd to watch the race. Or maybe the Japanese are much more civilized when they go to events like this. Didn't hear any airhorns. No yelling, whistling, nothing...

And here's to John Hopkins - 5th! Stayed on all the way to the end.

Rossi stuffed up!...it's a shame...it seems that right hander at the end of the back straight is the best overtaking spot.

Rossi had the fast in slow out approach...Melandri had the slow in fast out approach.

That's a bad mix racing that close.

Still... Rossi hit him from behind...Melandri was taken out through no fault of himself.

That crash in the 125's was incredible.

The last few laps of the 250's was the best racing of the weekend.

At least Rossi was concerend for his friend and knew he had screwed up.

We have not got to see the other 250 and 125 races here in the US yet.

I don't know about you "guys," but I sort of miss the days when a racer would be in the 125cc race, get off and jump on the 250cc for that race. Or Mike "The Bike" running the 250, 350 and then the 500.

I know I only talk about the old racers - "Sweets For The Sweet," I guess.

That's what comes of not seeing a race in over 30 years.

The Japanese are very civil at these types of events. I'm surprised you didn't hear some noodle slurping though. Noodles are the snack of choice at sporting events.

I haven't been to Motegi yet, but I'm going next month for the Boxer Cup races.

Man, you've got to get out more...And I speak as one whose adventures are few and far between. These AMA guys and these MotoGP guys are as good as can be. And the hardware is much improved over that of 30 years ago...

I heard the crowd was going barzerk....any way about the old guys racing different classes...Rossi wants to go out doing that next year...we'll see.

All I found was this...on the Moto Gp site.

In the crash, Melandri sustained contusion and compound wound of the right heel. Fracture and serious injury were ruled out but he was taken to the Dokkyo Hospital for further medical checks. A couple of lap before this incident, his team-mate Sete Gibernau crashed out when he was chasing Carlos Checa on the 11th lap Ã¢â‚¬â€œ it was the fifth DNF for the Spaniard out of twelve rounds held so far this year.

Team manager Fausto Gresini was clearly disappointed about the outcome of the race: Ã¢â‚¬Å“Another disastrous day for the team, with crashes for both riders and injuries to Marco. We still don't know the extent of the injury, or whether he will be fit to race next week. I am gutted because I thought both riders worked well for this race and we had hoped for a much different result.Ã¢â‚¬Â

Did you notice in that link to the crash pics showing the sequence of pics he had his boot off before he was carried off...these guys are tough...he'll be back next week.

btw...his ankle might not be his worst injury...it looks like in this pic he's sitting on his spinning rear tire...ouch!

is it true that the 2 cycilnder Duc have bigger engines then the 4 cyclinder engine? So the 5 cycinder have even smaller then the 4? Go that most be a hell of a formula to figure it out?

No I don't think so.....maybe a weight thing....Im not sure.

btw...the Ducati's are 4 cylinders...they're all about 990 cc

I think it's the Supa Bikes that have funny rules about different size and cylinders etc...I think that's all changed now.

Even in Supa's....they used to have 750 4 cylinder bikes competing against the 1000 2 cylinder bikes.

Now they're all 1000 bike and Ducati's are struggling to keep up with the Suzuki's and Yamaha's......Go Troy!..
