Oil Filler cap Fix

Looking at a more reasonable priced more permanent fix for the oil fill cap
The Wunderlich ones is a little pricey
I found this on Amazon
So i ordered it
I am thinking I can tig weld it to the valve cover or just JB weld it
I will try to just JB it first
Even if I have to pay $50 to have it welded that is cheaper than the Wunderlich set up
I will see how it looks when I get it

They leak
And like I said I wanted a more permanent fix
And it is a pain to press the new plastic insert and Oring into the valve cover
When I tried to install a new Oring it cut so i ended up using the old Oring and Grey RTV
That's when I decided to try this
At less than $20.00 USD it was worth a shot

Your right it is magnesium
No welding

Ours haven't leaked, however there was a learning curve the first time we replaced one.

I've only replaced the fitting once, but it wasn't difficult to fit the oe fitting.
The only time I've had the cap leak is when I haven't FULLY cleaned and dried the cap o-ring and the seating.
They don't have to leak.

Maybe the OEM Cap and seat are just fine and I had bad luck pressing it in
I just don't like the way BMW did it
I like to tinker
So I am trying to install a different cap and I thought some one may find this interesting

That being said
Here is a picture of the male bung installed into the cover waiting for the JB weld to set up
The bung fit perfectly into the cover after a little sanding with a flapper wheel

Now the Question is will the cap leak or vibrate loose
If it does I will be going back to the OEM set up

Doesn't leak
Did not loosen
And has a larger opening to pour the oil into
Also no dirt will collect around the cap waiting to fall into the valve cover when you take the cap off
All was less than $25.00 USD

And I want to apologies to all who was offended for doing some thing that just wasn't necessary because the BMW cap is such an engineering marvel

So I will not bother posting anything like this again

Never used JB Weld, is it oil resistant ??

Will be interested to hear how well it holds up. Creative idea. I have a slightly leaking oil fill cap. I think it's the expensive ($45) Wunderlich installed by a PO.

Yes and it is a very good adhesive
I have cast iron Wisconsin engine in a 1969 Bolens garden tractor that threw a rod and cracked the crank case
I repaired it in 1987 and it is still holding strong
As a mater of fact we carry JB quickset with us on our trips
It works very well for repairing a damaged valve cover
I have also used it to reattach the turn signal on my air head

Just remember the 04 valve covers are expensive and not as common as the single plug covers
so if you screw this up it could be costly
