3 harley riders put on a good show today
I got on the highway around 10:30 this am.
I entered the highway about 300 yds behind 3 harleys.
They were about 70 yds apart.
I pull out to pass the first rider. I was impressed by how
Skillfully he rode in the DEAD center of the lane. I call it
DEAD center, because it’s a great place to get a lubricant or coolant
on your tires or hit a muffler or other debris. I’m sure that his
loud pipes and DOT approved dew (don’t) rag would have
saved his life if anything would have happened.
I am about 30 yards behind the center rider. He is in the right lane
and I am on the far left side of the left lane. I laugh at how his legs
are stretched fore ward and splayed out sideways like a fat cow
giving birth. This genius (also riding dead center) hits what looked
like a tree root or branch. It was a bright color – no way to not see it.
Traffic had been beaten it up quite good but it was still about 4 in
wide by 2.5 high. How this goof did not crash is beyond me but I
know it had little to do with skill. But I am sure he would have
walked away unharmed because of his DOT dew rag, loud pipes and
indestructible HD “T†shirt.
Riding near those yard apes is every bit as dangerous as riding
near squids.

1. Are you sure you weren't on the high-and-mighty-way?
2. Live and let live . . . or die, if that's the choice people make.
3. It's my understanding that when you're riding in the left lane of a two-laner, you should be in the right-most (not self-righteous-most) third of the lane, to establish lane dominance.
4. Have a nice day.

Yeah..... I know what ya mean.
I watched virtually the same thing when I rode behind some skilled BMW riders and a Moto Guzzi pilot. The Beemer rider had his legs splayed on the cylinder heads, and the Guzzi rider had a 3/4 helmet that matched his sleevless levi jacket. It was the guy on an expensive BMW LT who hit the muffler in the middle of his lane.
You know 'bout those rich Beemer riders and their elitist Guzzi freinds.... sheesh!

Yeah, I've seen the same thing, but on all makes of bike - like Pat stated. I've noticed more 'cruiser' bikes wandering all over their lane while I was trying to stay 'in formation' behind them. I've seen them come up behind me, directly behind me and stay there as if to say that I was in their part of the lane. I've also seen the would be thought of as the seasoned gold wing rider doing the same.
It's all bikes/brands/types. Sloppy riders, not lesser machines. Too bad lots learn the hard way.

Pat;
I'm confused! Did the Vespa rider run over the cat and his buddies, or were the buddies just riding with him when he hit the cat?[/quote]coulda been a snot-nosed teenager on a Vespa GT200 who ran over a dead cat, and his buddies on Honda 250 Rebels.....
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

new2,
can I blame my sentence structure on the dead cat too??? Or the cheap Red wine my sister gave me for my birthday....?
Mike,
I used your hedge clippers, lubed 'em, and cleaned them up. The neighbors (all of 'em) are passing them around, and I should be getting them back by the end of the week (I hope).

Harley riders
roxrider - I guess you are getting beat up a little on this but don't feel too bad. I tend to point out the same things when I am in the cage with my wife and she justs says "at least they are out riding, it takes all kinds". I usually point out the Harley guys riding slow and the squids riding in shorts! I guess they point and laugh at me on the Roadster with ATGATT!
It takes all kinds!

You know? Given how stupid I am for riding a Harley, I'm surprised I'm still alive. I guess having the Roundel on one of my other bikes is bumping my IQ to the right a little - enough so that I don't win the Darwin Award.
In all seriousness, I agree that a lot of Harley riders are iconic in their self-absorbed existence and less-than-stellar riding. I find the hate however somewhat difficult to understand. In the grand scheme of things, they're our allies in this thing we call motorcycling and generally have the same interest in keeping this sport alive despite what some cagers want.
Indeed, where's the love?

Now guys, HD riders, albeit their colorful wear and somewhat less than desirable antics, are good family men and church going people just like us.
That is with the exception of the #%%^^&%# that passed me on my left, 2 cm away at WOT in second gear with a set of open Bub's while I was leading a group of newbies on a familiarization ride. I was so fricking mad and totally powerless because I didn't want to leave the newbies with a bad impression. My only recourse was to yank the Glock and fire two rounds at his rear tire, yes, a bit unorthodox but gave me a great sense of relief as the tire poped, besides we were in an isolated road and no one saw me.
Needles to say I was the first one to stop to render assitance, the HD rider was visibly shaken as he had a great deal of dificulty bringing the brute under control.
I asked him if he was OK and he acknowledged that other than the scare he was OK. He was beside himself as how a 250 section tire just two weeks old could blow like that, I said the sheat happens....unfortunately it was his turn. He didn't have a cell phone, I did but forgot that I had it on me, however I told him there was a service station a few miles down the road and Iwould stop and seek help.
We wished him good luck and left, a chill went through my body as we passed the service station, it felt like I had forgotten something, nahhhh, we pressed on and for some or other reason I had a great day........
