My seat is crushing my-well you know...

So I have had my 02 r1250r for about six months. Absolutley love it. It has become an affair if you ask my wife...

However, the more I ride, the more my nethers get smushed. I'm a slim build 6.0, 165 with a 32 inch inseem. It seems as though the stock seat pushes me into a plastic puddle of uncomfortable crushness.

Do aftermarket seats flatten out the dip in the base of the seat to avoid this slide into pain?
I'd hate to buy without trying-and beyond this, the stock seat is fine.

Insight appreciated.

You can install some spacers or washers under the block that holds the seat brackets. This will raise up the front end of the seat block

I struggled with my stock seat for years, eventually decided to install a "Corbin seat". It did improve significantly, but still not the best.
I find that I can ride on curvy roads for hours on end without much pain, but as soon as I get on the highway the pain starts almost immediately.
Moral of the story…… stay out of the highways

My first R had the stock seat and I endured the same. When my wife rode with me and during the inevitable quick stop it was crushing! (literally) Second R has a Sargent seat and it's all the difference in the world. No more discomfort!

Thanks for the response. Is it that your Sargent seat has a different shape that keeps you scooted abit more back? Or it is just flatter overall?

I have the Sargent on my 2002 R as well. It is wider, flatter, slightly taller and generally better shaped with better foam. Worth every penny. Mine is still in fine shape after eleven years.

This was my problem as well. I cured it with a "High" seat from Touratech/Kahedo. Excellent but expensive. Don't think any of the BMW seats will solve the problem. I had to order the seat directly from Germany as Touratech USA didn't have it.

I use an Alaskan Leather Sheepskin buttpad on long slab days. On days through the twisties, there are generally no problems.

The Sargeant seems to be the most popular aftermakets seat.

So I tried JW's idea of putting a small spacer underneath the block that holds the seat in place. I placed a quarter inch nylon spacer (with a longer screw) and while it didn't completely alleviate the problem, it's certainly a long way to making my ride more comfortable. I may find a Sergeant or Corbin seat this Christmas but until then-the junk is comfy. Thanks all!

i have the sargent off my '03 r1150r. if u want it, i'll sell it to you. i, however, don't thing it will help since it didn't help me. there is only one way, and that is Russel Day Long. this is my second Russel, had one on my K also. bite the bullet, this is a triumph of function over form. people think Russel is ugly, but after a few thou miles, it is beautimus! btw, i just have the rider half of the seat, kept my passenger seat. looks fine. also, get the leather top on the seat, it is much cooler. let me know if u insist on buying my Sargent, but don't say i didn't warn you.

How's the quality and workmanship of the Sargent seat? I'm planning to replace my stock seat as well.

I may be getting into this a bit late, but, for what it is worth here is my $.02. Before spending a lot of money for a new seat try spending a little money for a set of "bar backs" from Wunderlich. In May I made a trip from York PA to Escondido CA on my 2004 R1150R. The first two days I went with the stock handlebar mounts. After a stop in Indiana to meet up with a long time friend we installed the backs before heading southwest. The improvement was noticeable. I was slightly more upright. This seems to relieve the pressure of leaning forward into the front of the stock seat enough. I forget the cost but it is much lower than a new seat. But then I am not 6+ tall so it may just be my geometry. And the right underwear can help too.

Anything without seams in the seat and definately not boxers. For day long rides I like the knit long/medium legged briefs. I've heard the more intense riders wear something like bicycle shorts.... this is generally for the mileage slaves who resent ever getting out of the saddle.

Hey Riverside-did you have any problems with your cables being too short on your r1150r? I bought risers 1" up and 1.25" back. Just not sure about the install. Thx.MDrei

I have bar backs and risers on my R850 and they make the cables tight just make sure they are not " Ty-Wrapped " too tight.

skylarmav1 and captaincable are correct. Watch the play on your cables. Mine are up 1" and back less than that. It doesn't take much to make a difference in position. The instructions that come with the ones I got has you cut the Ty-Wraps and cautioned you to make sure the cables are all free after assembly. In my case this meant one less Ty-wrap on each side and I did not tighten them down hard. You can just move the cables under the wraps. enough to keep them from "flapping" around. Turn the bars full tilt in each direction when on the center stand to check they are not binding or rubbing hard anywhere. I have had no problems with mine after making the change.
