R1150R HARD front end riding.

Post by sterling »

OK. folks. - HELP! My 5th Beemer & 2nd. oilhead. Previous being 96 R1100RS which rode like a dream with front OHLIN shock. Now have 03 R1150R (23,000 miles) which I love, BUT, it rides like a bear on front end. (has factory shocks). Blamed old Bridgestones from previous owner so changed for new Pirelli Angels. Much better in corners, but still SO hard on front end it is a nightmare. Changed fork oil, same problem. Adjustments make little difference. Too soft & forks bottom out, etc. I think I'm probably answering my own q here by stating my old 1100RS had Ohlin shock on front. What do you think-anybody? BIG bucks for Ohlins & I'm not a mechanical idiot but I am cheap! All comments welcome. Thanks, Brian.

Brian, I bought my 2008 R-bike with 12,000 miles on it. On the second ride (first one being bringing it home from the dealer) I found out that the front shock was a noodle. Bottoming out and pogoing all over the place. Yes, you have answered your own question. Get a new shock. This was also the case with my '98 1100RS. Oddly, the 1200GS I had the suspension was pretty good.
