EWS Electronic immolilizer

Post by CosmeT »

Guys

Happy New Year for all of you!

Do somebody has the exact tech info about how this system electronically work?
Although I had read my Rider's Manual page 37 regarding this topic, honesty this is a very general information.

Thanks in advance and drive safe!

Exact technical information.... no. But in general it works by using a key with a coded chip imbedded in it and an antenna on the motorcycle that communicates with the chip when the key is inserted and turned. The antenna on the R12R is the black, plastic, circular piece surrounding the ignition key slot. It is called the EWS (German for Elektronische Wegfahr Sperre) antenna or ring. The antenna is connected to the central computer and tells the computer whether or not the key is recognized and to initiate the start-up sequence.
