As the nights are drawing in, I noticed that one (or maybe a couple) of the backlights on my Rock have given up the ghost
Zero - 60/70 is quite clear, but the rest of the clock is a little dim. Not the end of the world, but it's really distracting when I glance down at the clock, and is a bit annoying really
So... Anyone dismantled/replaced them? Easy/Difficult/Impossible?? Any help warmly received!
eyebrow pops off (regrease the lugs and grommets when you reassmble otherwise you'll pop the grommets out)
undo the two screws either side, then unclip the three clips holding the clocks to the backpiece: these need a bit of figuring out - but any clever person should manage.
then the bulbs should pull out from the back of the clocks fairly easily.

The Rockster's clocks should be fully lit.
Haven't been in there for a while, but the assembly is a little odd - iirc you have to pull the clocks unit away from it's mounting at a 90 degree direction to the one you think it should go - or something.
The spring clips "grab" a circumferential groove at end of each mount post. The clips are removed by pushing at the flat/upturned side to slide the clip across the post end. It's simple once you get the first one off and see the clip construction. But that first clip is a bitch.
There are four backlighting bulbs, two for each gauge, positioned at wacky angles.
I changed my backlight from the OE incandescent bulbs to LEDs. Not better, just different.
Some of the rubber bulb sockets were easy to remove, and others near impossible.

I switched to these LED's on my FZ1 and it helps if you rough up the end with some sand paper or whatnot to help diffuse the light. Be careful with the type where the LED is sitting right on the end, you can still do it, but go gently.
