Engine Guard, Pegs and Tank Bag

I've been looking for an engine guard that doesn't look clunky and won't ruin the look of the bike, but so far I haven't found one. I have a 2004 R 1150 R. I need one that can accommodate highway pegs so I can occasionally stretch my legs out. I'm also looking for a magnetic tank bag that holds a lot of stuff but doesn't block my view of the instrument panel. Suggestions very much appreciated. Steve

I love my magnetic Nelson Rigg tank bag. Expandable and easy to put on and take off. Take your bike to the store and ask if you can 'test fit' the tank bag you are considering. One suggestion: don't buy one with a narrow map pocket opening. My K100RS has an aluminum tank so I needed a tank bag with straps. Found a pair of Wolfman bags with one strap kit on Craig's list. Good shape, price, and pockets, but the map area is wider than the opening and I have to fold it up, then unfold it once inside the pocket! Beats up my maps pretty quick too. The clear plastic is anti reflective Matt finish, so you have to hold down the plastic with your left hand to read anything through it! For those reasons, and the ease of magnets, I love my older Nelson Rigg!

I am looking for cylinder protection too. The plastic BMW ones are expensive, but sacrifice themselves well when the time comes. I heard that the metal tube type can stress the cylinders and take your cover bolts out Ian impact. I am not sure what to do! Keep me posted in your search.

My setup is the BMW plastic cylinder head covers, and the Elf foot pegs...I like the pegs because they're not noticeable until you flip them out. Check out the attached link:

Question on the ELF pegs. How do they compensate for the offset cylinder heads? My mind tells me that the left foot would be positioned further forward than the right side...... thanks

I didn't know the cylinders were offset. How far offset are they?

I'm not sure if there is any compensation in the ELF pegs. I've never noticed them feeling much different, but I don't use them a lot. And i have only ridden 2,000 total miles since buying the bike. I'd go out and ride it and pay closer attention, but more snow today.

I have them as well and I don't notice it at all. I only use them on long trips (once a year) and when I do use them, I am very glad I have them!

Cylinders are offset front to back and also top to bottom, and one compensates some in distance from the sea for the other. The cylinder which is farther back (closer to the seat) is also the lower one and vice versa. Don't think my long legs would notice the difference! I just rest them on the cylinders for a time when I start to cramp.

Tank bag model:

Mine is a Nelson Rigg tail bag or tank bag. At the time they called it the 902 in black and carbon. Many different magnetic tank bags are around and I think they have changed the NR bag a bit since I bought it. I took a couple of pictures of it on the bike, but I cannot figure out how to post a photo here.

Bring your bike in to Cycle Gear or your favorite moto shop and ask if you can try them on your bike to see how they fit and look to you. They are handy to have for sunglasses, water bottles, tire pressure gauges, change, maps, pens, lens cleaner, microfiber cloth, etc.
