Just bought an r1150r...

Post by reyb »

Sold my 2000 r1100r and bought a 2005 r1150r. This "new" bike has 24k miles, givi top case w passenger pad, bmw side cases, Wilber shocks front and rear, oem shocks front and rear, stock rear rack with bag, gel passenger seat, oem passenger seat, heated grips, windshield but *no* ABS. Bike is smoother than my r1100r but revs a little higher overall on the freeway. For now, I'm not liking the bike as much as my r1100r. :( Got the bike for $5500..good deal?

Sounds like a fair deal. Congratulations.

Curious why you might prefer the R1100R over the R1150R.

Thanks :)

I'm a little disappointed because the handlebar seems to sit lower, windshield doesn't block as much wind and with the bike being a 6 speed I expected the rpms to be lower on the freeway. Handlebar and windshield can be addressed but I'm thinking it'll cost me around $300 or more. Unfortunately, gear ratio is what it is.

IIRC there were two gearbox options on the R1150R. One with six pretty evenly spaced ratios, & the other with a higher 6th gear, as fitted to the R1150RT.
Personally, I like the first option which my bike has; you will get used to it, & I think the 1150R is an under-rated motorcycle. I was contemplating a new 1200R, & loved it when I had a demo. for two days, but I decided in the end the 1150R was still a fine bike, & the cash saved buys an awful lot of petrol & tyres. :D

1. You do have handlebar options, including the simple choice of bar riser and/or bar-backs. One of my principal beefs about the R850/1100R Roadsters was the cast handlebar setup.

2. Lots of good windshields out there for the 1150 Roadster, but it's also a great naked bike. I've ridden 40k miles on Roadster and Rockster without any windshield; no way I'd ever put one on... hate the turbulence.

3. Want lower cruising rpm? Swap out the final drive gear set for a taller ratio.
