Tire options

Hey guys, im just wondering if you guys have tips or opinions in regards to tires. Im getting to the time when I need to change my front tire, and I just want to look at the different options out there. What do you guys suggest, what brand or what tires would work best for the R1150R.....

If you get six replies, you'll probably get six different answers. Any of the major makes will serve you well; Conti Road Attack, Metzeler, Dunlop RoadSmart 1 & 2, Michelin Road Pilot 1, 2 & 3. They all have their champions.

My favorites were the Micheline Pilot Road 1, followed by the Bridgestone 023. The PR1 are not available anymore, and I didn't like the PR2 as much as the PR1, so I got the Bridgestone 023. I like the 023 because they are cheaper, and have handled all riding conditions well. The Bridgestone 021 was way too soft, and I barely got half of the mileage that I did on all of the other tires I have had. I have steered clear of the Pilot Road 3 only because of the $, because they are $70-$100 more than many of the other tires.

The reason I'm only changing the front tire is because I just got this motorcycle, and the previous owner had changed the back tire and it's still at about 75%....and the front tire is already starting to look like it only have a couple hundred more miles...

Thanks for the heads up on the tires, Im certainly going to look into the Bridgestone....

I'd put the same type of tire on the front that's on the rear so handling characteristics are the same front and rear.

I just put a pair of Metzeler z8 interact on mine. Only done 1000km so far but in all weathers, including heavy rain and even snow one evening, and they've been great (the bike too). Mechanic said they are similar to the Pilot Roads (2 or 3 take your pick) but are a bit cheaper. But as others have said, there are many good options and the same amount of opinions and nowadays I think it's quite difficult to get a really poor tyre in all aspects. Tyre pressures probably have a bigger impact than different brands, IMO.

hey guys, I looked at the back tire that way i can get the same type of tire...the back tire is a Bridgestone Battlax BT020R...what do you guys know about this one????....

I think Im going to go with this one, that way the front and rear tire can be the same....(thanks for the tip Sunbeemer)

never mind guys, i'm a bit behind on these ( they are no longer available)...haha...i guess i will have to get the BT 023...

You will like the 023. The front tire has a similar tread pattern to the Pilot Road 1 and that pattern at 36-39 psi never cupped, or scalloped. I have over 5k miles and the 023 look good for more.

I've become a fan of PIlot Road 3s.. I find they give good mileage and work well in the rain. Mine are approaching the wear bars and still don't show the flattening of the tread common to freeway travel.
