Stock shocks adjustment

Post by Showmaster »

Hi all
Wonder if anyone "played" with the adjustment screw on shocks?
I've noticed front tire irregular wear, kind when you shocks are completely out. Found out that the set screw was out almost all the way. Screwed it almost all the way in - half turn out - it set the shock. I wonder if there was a procedure for this?

If I am not mistaken you can adjust only the rear shock and instructions howto are in your riders manual. However that would have no effect on uneven tire wear.

I think there is a damping adjustment screw on both shocks, and a preload spring adjustment knob on the rear shock. I think I read somewhere that the damping screws should be tightened all the way in, then back 'em out one and a half turns, then adjust to taste.

I followed the default setting as described in the owners manual. Something along the lines of the above. I then increased the damping a turn at time, on front AND rear, until any wallowing had gone but I was not kicked out of the seat. I've an interesting piece of road that tests the suspension over fairly long wave form bumps and is ideal for the purpose. My setting has stayed since I got the bike about 9 years ago. I up and down the rear suspension preload a couple of clicks depending on the load.
