Tint/Dye Standard Sportshield

Interested to know if any R1200R riders have successfully tinted/dyed the standard sport shield on their bike and if so, the products and process so applied. Looking for a dark grey finish.

I've seen a couple done on here, I believe Lost Rider did his when he rebuilt his bike after a parking lot incident a few years back.

I think they folks that have done it used spray paint designed for plastics and painted the back side of the screen to minimize the rock chip potential.

You can dye plastic and acrylic with Rit Dye and Acetone quite well.

Google "Dye Plastic, Acrylic, Polycarbonate", etc...and you will get a lot of stuff help

Yes, did mine last year - just paint the back of the screen with acrylic (usual aerosol can type stuff) - job done. Make sure the surface is scrupulously clean and free of grease or any other contaminants such as polishes etc though - as you obviously can't use a primer to "key" the paint and you could end up with "fisheyes" all over the place. Also, make sure you get it right first time as you'll not be able to use any solvents to remove the paint (or dye or whatever you use) if it goes wrong - they'll just melt the plastic of the screen. I used to paint (mainly guitars) for a living before I retired a year or so ago and had some panel degreaser left over that's used in the auto paint trade - makes a magnificent job of degeasing stuff - including your hands if you get any on there so wear thick rubber gloves if you use it! It wont harm plastics but most solvents will so don't be tempted to use anything acetone based to degrease.
