Some company - it might even be National Cycle - had faux-carbon-fiber appliqué's for the Gen-1 R12R triple tree. If you can't find that - there is faux-carbon-fiber stick-on sheets sold. You'd just have to cut it out yourself. If not that - then it's paint time.Tarmac wrote:Any thoughts on what I should do about the scratches on the triple tree?

Re: Anyone Used This Shield?
I purchased a Ztechnik shields for my 2011 R1200R from National Cycle nationalcycle.com and I really like them. The mounting brackets were a piece of cake to install. I called National Cycle and they sold me three different size windshields and one mounting bracket kit. (All three size windshields fit the same bracket, and the shields are easily changed) For all three and the one mounting kit it was around $700 bucks. A little expensive but I really like them. The three that I got were the Sport Z2443, Sport Touring Z2442, and the Tall Touring Z2444. The National Cycle web site has photos of the windshields mounted on the R1200R bikes. bluedemon
fleuger99 wrote:Thanks for this info. I looked up MAX BMW as one of their partners and called the closest MAX dealership to me in MA. They said the program is cool. Let them know which shield I'd be interested in. They order it, and then I bring my bike up and they install it for me. The installation on the R1200R is less than an hour. I have 30 days to ride and try it. If for any reason I don't like it I return with my bike and they remove it. No questions asked and I get a full refund. In April I'm going to give this shield a try. I have nothing to lose.Anyname wrote:Ztechnik has a ride and buy test ride plan:fleuger99 wrote:Thanks all for your feedback. I know the shield for the 2011 on is a new design but I also don't want to be stuck with a lemon. Might look elsewhere now.

Have you had a chance to get any riding impressions on these? I was considering the Sport shield to replace BMW's and give a little more wind protection. How is the buffeting from the screens?
Thanks.

Re: Anyone Used This Shield?
I have the sport screen on my 1200r, very similar to the sport screen on my 1150r. I'm satisfied with it as it keeps air off my chest, to my shoulders, and head in clean air. I'm 6'2" with the high seat customized by Rick Mayer. I also got the 18" screen and do not like it. Too much buffeting around head for me. If I scrunge down, air passes over my head so this would work for someone about 4-6" shorter than me with standard or low seat.

Re: Anyone Used This Shield?
Hi everyone, my first time posting on this forum.
Just bought my R1200R maybe a month ago and i installed (I think) this windshield. Or the one close to it. Can't be sure cuz they had some misunderstandings with the item #. But i can say for sure I got the medium size V Stream for R1200R. V streams come in three sizes small medium and a large one. I chose medium only cuz i think it looks the best. Small one is for your instrument panel ONLY, large one is too large for city riding.
Wind protection is not so great. Like someone here said all the turbulence goes straight to my open visor. So riding with a visor open is out of the question. But if i keep it mostly closed I get a good protection in a chest area and my helmet doesn't buffet too much. I'm thinking maybe i should add one of those detachable adjustable extenders from Wunderlich for when I will be doing longer trips. Installing it was a breeze. They updated the mountings for a year '11 on and you should be able to install it without scratching your bike.
My summary would be this, if you can sacrifice some comfort for a much better look - go with the medium size. And if my bike was clean right now I'd take some pics with a shield on - it's a beauty! But if you want the comfort i'd think the large one should be a very good choice.

I have the 21" V Stream installed, and started with the 18". The 18 looked the best, but caused a lot of buffeting around my helmet. I am 5'6". The 21" is better, but still noisy. I think it is too narrow. Curious to hear if the short screen, while less protection, is quieter. I know there are quieter shields, but I do not like the look of them.

Re: Anyone Used This Shield?
Hi All,
I have an appointment scheduled on April 28th to get the sport screen installed (http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/Z2443) number Z2443 which is 14" tall and 14" wide. A BMW dealer in New Hampshire is a partner and they do the install. If you're not happy within 30 days you can return it and exchange it for another screen.
I'm simply looking for some upper body protection from the wind but want my helmet in clean air. After my installation I'll update this thread and add some pics.
