How Many $$ for an '09?

Re: How Many $$ for an '09?
In 2011 they put the DOHC engine on the R1200R which was previously on the GS. I found this reference...
http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/616/8310/ ... -Look.aspx
"The big news for the two R models is they get the updated version of the Boxer, which was developed on the HP2 Sport and debuted on the brand’s best-selling GS line during the 2010 model year. BMW first announced upgrades to its Boxer at last year’s EICMA Milan Bike Show, where the R1200R will debut. The 1170cc horizontally-opposed Flat Twin now makes use of a dual overhead cam in each cylinder head. Intake and exhaust valves are larger, with the valves in a radial arrangement. The new head bumps performance, with redline raised from 8000 to 8500 rpm. Power claims rise as well, with an extra five horsepower (110 total) and three more lb-ft of torque (88 total)."

Re: How Many $$ for an '09?
Okay, so now I've got a REAL problem! Looks like they sold the '09. My dilemma? Which colour to get a '12 in? Don't want to spend the $$ on the "skunk", aka the special.
Like the red
Like the light grey
Like the smoke grey
The pressure! I know the red is the fastest. If I add bags, the smoke grey will look better with the black bags?
Decisions, decisions.....what to do...

When in doubt, chicken out...

Have them do a custom job and get the light grey with lime green or high viz yellow high lights.

Okay so, after much fence sitting, soul searching, and no small amount of research (some here, some at advrider.com) I've "pulled the trigger" on the '09! Planning to just go with the top box and use my Wolfman soft bags. I have some days off in May so I'll be headed to get it in a couple of weeks. Prepare to have your collective brains picked with seemingly dumb questions.

Congrats
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects handlebars to the saddle.

Congrats Lyle, you've made a wise decision. My '08 is by far the nicest bike I've ever ridden. I LOVE it.sky_sailor wrote:Okay so, after much fence sitting, soul searching, and no small amount of research (some here, some at advrider.com) I've "pulled the trigger" on the '09! I guess they didn't sell the '09 to someone else after all, eh?
Re: How Many $$ for an '09?
My experience: I bought an 09 with ABS and ESA with 4,500 miles on it, and painted Wunderlich Trophy fairing. I also got a 5 year unlimited mile warranty. Everything for $10,500. This was 14 months ago. I have 17,000 miles on it now and I use it daily as a commuter as well as long trips. Best bike I've ever owned. Knowing what I know now, I would have paid 12k without any problems.
Love this bike.

Congratulations! I have an '09 that I purchased new in Feb 2010. I just got back form the dealer where I had 2 new Metzeler Z8's installed. I have about 17,000 miles on my bike. I ride it around town, on day trips and long touring trips. You can do just about anything with this bike. Some have even gone where no GS would ever dare. I stay on the pavement with mine.
You won't be sorry you bought this bike. It is the most well kept secret in the BMW line. When I visited the dealership today, they had a classic model on the floor and I was talking to the salesman about the R1200R. As usual, he said, "we don't keep many of these in stock, because they don't sell well." He then thought about it and said he had sold four of them in the last two months. I told him you have to stock them to sell them. As I looked around at about six or seven GS models on the floor, I told him that not everyone wants or can ride a GS. I sure can't with a 28 inch inseam.
