Hello from Panama, Central Amercia, I've been lurking around for some time since I got a '95 R1100R early last year. Now is my time to share. Please access the links to see the pictures, I was not able to embed them into my post.

She is called "La Malandra" a spanish word for a female antisocial, thug or outlaw, she is called that way because she is the most badass BMW in town. I made plenty of modifications to make her look and perform as she does today, between them:

Remus catalytic converter eliminator and titanium revolution muffler
Ohlins shocks
K&N air filter
R1150R cases mounts and luggage rack
R1100R Facelift headlight bracket
R1150R/R1100R Facelift headlight
R1150R speedster windshield
R1100RS/R1150RS front fender and fork covers
Yamaha chrome rearview mirrors
Mototechnic handlebar convertor
R1150R handlebar
R1200C chrome valvecovers
R1200C chrome alternator belt cover
170/60-18 rear tire (instead of stock 160/60)
clear signals, clear rear light with LED
simplified telltale
polished brake and clutch levers
and of course custom paint

Hola Miguel,

your bike looks very nice indeed. The only thing I would still recommend to change is the ugly looking oil coolers above the cylinders (have a look at my modification (https://picasaweb.google.com/1003408169 ... 645/Kuhler#). I have mounted a cooler taken off the R1150GS under the a-arm (commonly known as telelever).

As a matter of fact I have followed your modifications for a while, I consider truly amazing what you have done to your machine and you gave me some sort of inspiration. I actually think the exposed side oil coolers give personality to the R in contrast to other boxers but I will consider your suggested modification for the future. I see as per the pictures you later installed a R1200R cooler.

Currently I plan to add chrome alternator cover and chrome valve covers which i will take out from a R1200C Avantgarde (my other bike) that I want to be darker with whole engine, trany block and final drive in black and later custom paint as well, just for the sake of some bling-bling in the R, then maybe the oil cooler in the front won't be a nice idea. I am also thinking about adding a Wunderlich belly pan and tubular handlebars.

thanks for the flowers ... Well I think taste is something very personal which is why every individual has his/her own way of modifying a motorbike. Yes indeed, I later installed the R1200R cooler (which however works only with different mufflers than the stock ones). The only reason for this is that I felt that my bike was getting a bit too warm (especially on highways when running at higher speeds for some miles).

Go ahead with your mods and keep us updated about your progress. Have fun with your fine masterpiece of German engineering!

Well, "La Malandra" got bling-bling, I added a chrome valve cover (cylinder head cover) and chrome alternator belt cover, both donated by my R1200C Avantgarde which soon will be getting the "triple black" treatment.

Apparently the valve covers are interchangable between the single spark oil heads, maybe even the dual sparks. The only trouble I had was installing the black plastic guards, I could only install 2 out of 3 bolts due to the larger profile of the chromed covers.

what do you mean by "fatter rear tire"? The original R1100R has a 160 something tire. Did you keep the original rim and just put on a 170 tire? Or what? If yes that is not a good idea ...

Yes, by fatter rear tire I mean a 170/60-18, no problems so far

Hola Miguel,

if you like a fatter rear tire go get yourself the 5.5" rim of the K1200RS (aka flying brick) which allows for a 180 tire. That rim is plug on and does not need any modifications. This is what I had on my R1100R ... If you want the same design on the front you'll need the front wheel of the R1150R (which needs slight modifications depending on whether you have ABS or not. If you go for this ask for what needs to be done ...

Well, I finally decided to "upgrade" to a R1200R 2013 90th anniversary edition... so I no longer have the R1100R, It was sad to let her go but I don't regret my decision.

Regarding video, I used to have a video on Youtube but apparently I deleted it.

I went with the same configuration on my new bike (K&N air filter, cat removal and Remus titanium mufler, a Hexacone in this case) and it sounds like this: http://youtu.be/OoAw8HMTZng
The 1100 sounded a little louder as far as I remember and not as refined

Hi Miquel, can you give me more information on the instrument cluster you installed? I just purchased a 1996 R1100R and I'm dying to change the instruments to something more compact and maybe digital. Also who makes the red/black grips you installed. I think your bike is the best customized R1100R I've seen on the web...great job!
