Sitting on a balcony outside my 4th floor hotel room in Locarno, Switzerland, drinking white wine, with a lovely view of Alps, Lago Maggiore, and to put the cherry on it, a black R1200R just like mine parked below me. It's the little details that count...

If you haven't been there, you are close to Mandello del Lario. The Guzzi museum is there and may be worth the trip. Lago di Como is beautiful too, but all those alpine lakes tend to be that.

Hey Mike, sorry I did not see your post sooner. Are you still in this neck of the woods? If so send me a note, we are not too far from Geneva.

Great riding weather right now, my 2011 R12R is at your disposal, and I can point you to some very nice, smooth, sweeping mountain back roads! The ones without the speed cameras!

Paul, here are a couple of pics. to give you a rough idea of what Mike is enjoying (at least until he has time to post his own) These are on the North side of the Alps from Locarno, but you get the picture!

Xprof...a co-worker seeing my bike said the R1200R is used by the police in Europe. Do you see many motorcycle policemen riding R1200R? If the R1200R is used then what kind of fairing if any is used? A few movies show motorcycle police on R1200RT.

Redwing: I've seen lots of cops on BMWs over here, but they were all on the "authority" model RT.

Wherever I am, on a twisty road, it's good to see the boys and girls out playing. They ride serious over here!
