earthquake
I wish to express sympathy and condolences to all the people of Japan in their hour of crisis and to all of you out there who are either directly or indirectly affected by this catastrophy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire population of Japan that the death and injured can be kept to a minimum and that the tsunami will not cause too much more devastation.

Re: earthquake
Just got my first e-mail from some bogus organization looking for donations for the victims.
Horribly sad, but some people just can't wait to profit from another's grief.
I'll contribute but through a religious organization I'm familiar with.
Be careful who you send your donations to.

Re: earthquake
My wife and myself is ok. However, my daughter is studying near Tokyo area; with rolling blackouts, we are so worried. We are living near US base and have access to needed items, still conserve fuel, water and electricity. We do not have full power yet, include the base.
We are about 170 miles north of epicenter and no damage. 28km, nearby town, the fishing port was wiped out. 60 miles south of us got the worst (10,000) are considered missing; half of the town wiped out by tsunami in 7 minutes. No houses except cement pads. Aftershocks are still coming. Japanese predicted 7.0 plus within few day.

Iowabeakster,
My daughter is ok; she has to tough this one out alone. I have no way to get down to see her, damaged highway or using for resupply emergency equipments. We are simply cut off at Sendai/Fukushima area from Tokyo. All flights to our area were full. When things get a little better, I will go down to see her with a big hug.
thanks.

Re: earthquake
Folks,
The crisis in Japan has created more panic than actual tsunami and Fukushima Nuke Plant (radiation leaks). Several countries evacuated their citizens, include US. After several assurances that no danger from the plant, Tokyo residents stocked up foods, fuels and other items. This has created shortages. NO Call for this panic. Anywhere but Tokyo mode attitude to stay safe!!
Yesterday, Pentagon authorized military dependents and DOD civilians to leave Japan, easy than done. If you have job, kid in school, pets, you cannot simply leave and hope that you will get your job back. I will wait and see how many taken this offer (30 days round trip to Conus). I made up my decision of not come back to US. 170 miles north of Fukushima plant and wind blow west to east, the chance of getting radiation is slim. Earthquake is more concern to me than radiation poison.
I read the news about shortage of potassium iodine in US. Panic!! 3000 miles away from Japanese east coast.
Nuke Plant has overshadowed the quake.

Re: earthquake
Hopefully, the quake is over -- but it looks like the nuke problem may drag on for weeks, maybe months.
Keep an eye on the wind, Gaijin, and good luck.

Roads to Tokyo (south) are opened, bullet trains running end of this month, and planes are flying again. I will go down and see my daughter soon. Who said, "Father does not have feeling"?
As far as the nuke plant, they are still working on it.

Re: earthquake
Things are getting better but not totally normal.
1. The area near Fukushima plant is off limit, 20-30 kms now. That is suck; I have always want to ride along the coast to Tokyo. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN AT LEAST 30 YEARS??
2. The bullet trains (Tokyo - Aomori, Northern Japan) will run again on 29th of this month.
3. Planes are flying again.
4. No fuels shortage.
EARTHQUAKES HAPPENED OFTEN, GOT TO USE TO IT. It will take at 5 years to get back to normal.
Thank you for your prayers.
