BMW bike, BMW rider gear, and I assume this is a BMW helmet, but it doesn't look like the current System 6. Anybody know?

No idea ... but my first thought was that it was sticking its tongue out. :-)

System 7! I may pick one up when I go to Oktoberfest next year. I really like the fit and quality of the BMW helmets. Have had two so far.

Does anyone know from that photo how much narrower the engine is. I was told the new engine's heads don't stick out as far.

I own the same helmet, it is BMW.As to what model I don't know. I bought all mine/wife's gear at dealer in Ajax. I was there looking at bikes and salesperson told me of sale coming up. I think they were clearing out for end of season and new product line. I geared us both up, $3000.00 of gear for $1400.00 then politely went and bought my bike private. It all looks good on the 02 RT!

I think you might be onto something:

The helmet is a version of the BMW DoubleR that came out around the same time as the S1000RR. A cool £450 ($700+) at this site.

I hope none of us actually ride in full BMW gear, head to toe. I always laugh at Harley people who have the logo on everything from their helmet to their underwear (and probably have a Harley tattoo somewhere as well).

well, you'd laugh at me (and most of my riding mates) ... but over here the laugh'd be on you because the BMW stuff is actually about the best on the road, despite the stratospheric prices. The quality and durability means it's actuall reasonable value, once you make the jump to truly top-quality gear. Though I must say I'm tempted by Rukka (saw it at the MotoGP, now has an Aussie distributer, costs half BMW prices) .. we don't really get Aerostitch etc here: few US makers gear up for other markets, it seems.

Usual tour attire:
BMW Systems V helmet (3 years old)
BMW Tourguard Jacket (7 years old, refurbished, still 100% waterproof)
BMW Streetguard pants (3 years old, got @ half price coz my original pair .. ummm .. shrank .. )
BMW Contour boots ( 1 pair 4yrs old, I pr 7 yrs old, both still 100% waterproof)
BMW Summer pro / Winter / Pro-sport / Airflow glovesn (variously up to 7 years old)

Spring / Autumn dry day ride
BMW Freeway leather jacket & pants (5 & 4 years old)

Hot weather
BMW Airflow 2 suit (jacket / pants .. or BMW Summer pants) (6 years old)
BMW Airflow boots (6 years old - never waterproof  )
BMW Airflow 2 gloves (2 years old)

Sure, the roundel is a bit naff - but not anywhere near as naff as riding in cheap gear ....
