I noticed an interesting extract from a comparative test in the German Motorrad magazine quoted in our BMW club journal this month.
The test included BMW R1200r, Ducati Monster 1100, Harley Davidson XR1200X, Moto-Guzzi Griso 8V ansd Yamaha XJR1300.
The figures tabulated (can't seem to reproduce a table here without it going askew!), were:-
Top speed, BMW 133, Duc 136, H-D 120, M-G 143, Yam 132.
Acceleration 0-62 mph, BMW 3.4, Duc 3.4, H-D 4.2, M-G 3.4, Yam 3.3.
Acceleration 62-125 mph, BMW 13.8, Duc 14.5, H-D N/A, M-G 14.1, Yam 14.9.
Crankshaft BHP, BMW 111, Duc 97, H-D 90, M-G 107, Yam 107.
Fuel Consumption touring, BMW 54.3, Duc 65.7, H-D 52.3, M-G 49.5, Yam 48.7
Pulling Power 62-88 mph in top gear, BMW 4.1, Duc 4.2, H-D 4.9, M-G 4.9, Yam 3.7
Pulling Power 88-112 mph in top gear, BMW 4.9, Duc 5.8, H-D 7.6, M-G 5.4, Yam 4.9
The conclusion was "the BMW R1200R is the best bike in the comparison test but is the most understated. Riders wanting to be noticed should probably consider one of the others".
This seems to me to confirm what most contributors to this forum know already!

Re: Comparison
Having come from an FJR, I can say these numbers are pretty much in line with my experience. The R12 is also about 100 pounds lighter than the FJ. I like that.
