I'm using pretty much the same angle of attack, Don.

I know you've been a big proponent of this for awhile now, guess it takes us (me, at least) awhile to see the light.

Now I'm wondering if removing the flare at the top would help even more.

...

And I still like the Hannigan... ;)

Great minds and all that.. I've been thinking exactly the same thing, but can't figure out how to do it.

I was thinking of cutting off the flare, and adding a sacrificial piece (you've got a couple of candidates there, do you not?) to the top, in front of the existing, on sliders of some sort (adjustable, eh).

However, I am loathe to adversely affect my current situation, so I believe I will ruminate for 'a few whiles', as my neice used to say.

I think I be making a trip to my local hardware store so I can fab a set of those mounts for my shield as well. Ooooh, I just came up with an idea in my head.....will have to try it out. If it works, I will post pics, if not.....I will still post pics so others will not have to bother trying if they think like me :-k
Well...? I'm dying of suspense - what was your idea? :-k

Mollygrubber wrote:Well, I stole your idea and fabbed up some similar mounts, stuck my 18" Cee Bailey back on, and wow what a difference!

It seems smoother the faster I go! Not perfect, but way more perfecter than it was...

I'll attach some pics of my (bad) fabrication job when I get a chance.

Thanks for the inspiration xprof!

Here they are, in all their mal-focused, poorly exposed glory... I tell myself I'll go back and make them beautiful, but that probably won't happen. I guess I should have sanded them or something - pretty nasty close up. They are, however, mechanically strong. I used aluminum and not steel as I don't like rust.

I used zip-ties for insurance as I sometimes get a little enthusiastic with the right handgrip, and didn't want a mouthful of Cee Bailey 18" screen at high speed.

Not using torx heads may seem sacrilegious, but you can actually tighten these with a wrench from the side, rather than trying to get at them from above (the bend is right in the way...)

Hmmm - I think I should have de-burred the holes for the zip ties - may cut through pretty fast with all the vibration... well, that'll be when I pretty them up (and maybe make the tops even for pulchritude's sake)

Here you can see the slight bend I put on the mounting tabs, a couple of degrees only.

Angle of attack is now slightly greater than that of the fork(?) tubes... works pretty well - for now - muah ha haaaa...

Thanks again for all the helpful chatter and inspiration guys, this makes for a really nice ride.

Beautiful job, Peter. I'm gonna have to re-do mine in aluminum!

Mike,
Now that you have had your Bark Busters through the winter, how did they work out? Are you still like'n them? I am thinking seriously about getting a pair to keep my hands warm for a ride up the coast next month.

Sorry about the suspense, I had a vision of something but the moment I got home and started looking at my bike, I lost it......I now have one of Don C's windshield raisers installed and I am very happy with it.
