another new owner

Post by JCL »

HI!
I live in Maine, own a '99RT, used to own a '94 K1100RS, before that an '05 Bonneville. Years ago ('67) a Honda 305 Scrambler. I have not owned a bike I didn't like.

Just bought an '04 R1150R. It's in MN. Come spring I plan to fly to Minneapolis, run the new ride north to Bimidji then west to Bozeman, MT; visit kids and brand new granddaughter for a week, then ride back to ME via Rt 2 and the QEW. Now then, isn't that a great way to beat the knee deep in January doldrums?

I look forward to this forum. I've enjoyed the BMWMOA site very much.

I love the looks of the roadster, the fact that I don't have to remove acres of plastic to work on it and its reputed outstanding performance.

A comment to other new owners that lose a little confidence in their purchase after reading posts: You've got a machine, one of the most technically advanced and reliable available (that's quite a comination). Machines, all of them, break down sooner or later. When that happens fix it, get back on and have fun.

I'll be talking to ya,

John

Welcome aboard....it looks that you have a good plan to check the bike out. Post some pics of the bike and the trip and enjoy the trip home.

Welcome aboard JCL...Hope you find the bike is all you expect.

I did something similar when I bought mine in Mississippi and rode it home (~1000 Smiles!), except it was cold (for this now- Cracker) and foggy...probably something you're plenty used to!

But I grew up in Boothbay Harbor and have seen pea-soup fog, and that night on I-10 was pea-soup! Braile biking => not great...

Anyway, just wanted to say welcome aboard! You'll like this bike too.

Rich:
Thanks It is going to be hard not to like it. It is a physically handsome machine and if I don't like the test ride, I can walk away and fly home. But, I will admit I'm spring loaded to the like position.

You must know, of course, once a Yankee always a Yank, especially true if your from ME, but being especially gracious, most Southerners are tolerant of us.

I hope you're enjoying the year round riding. I'll be on St. George Is. south of Apalachicola for a couple of weeks in March, a great place and I'm bringing a bike with me.

Congrats and Welcome! That is a "first ride" for the books.

(Take pics, we have a Great Rides forum.)
