Gather round everyone and hear my tale of stupidity lol.
So I decided I wanted a stebel on this bike. I've had them on all my other bike and love'em. Well I decided it was going in the stock spot. All well and good it fit I thought it cleared everything.......... Wrong. I checked for clearance on everything...except for the damn brake line. I thought it had cleared it but it was actually kinking it. I noticed something wrong with the way the lever felt on the way into town I had also bled the brakes during all this so I thought that maybe I had left a bit of air in the lines.
Well turns out I was wrong. it was rubbing/kinked on the horn. The brakes actually applied themselves while I was riding. Lucky for me they didn't lock up. The brake line running from the block on the frame to the block on the forks is screwed now. Got a tear in it. I rode it home (about 4 miles) with no front brakes. Took it nice and slow and now have an immobile 600 lb piece of equipment sitting down in the shed till I get a new one.
Note to self..............ALWAYS double check mission critical components.
On that note if anyone can point me to a good online BMW parts dealer I would greatly appreciate it as finding replacement BMW parts on the mainstream sites for japanese bikes is proving troublesome to say the least.
I just went on the cyclebrakes website and couldn't find a BMW section. I typed BMW into the search engine and it came up with a 2 line kit which I would be fine with replacing the front brake line setup that is on there now I just need to know if it will infact fit. Guess I'll just call'em tomorrow and order by phone
Thanks for the help guys.
Will the two line kit work with the non-abs bikes? I'm assuming it will. I found a spot at checkout to put in year, make, model of bike so I assume they will make it the proper length with the right fittings.
