After sport winhdshield, cut down sport winshield and others (on other bikes); like Columbus, I have been introduced to a new world on the R1200R - no windshield.
Guess what , no protection, wind force, but no buffeting, rumble in the helmet nor stress.

Incidentally spend a bit more time wiping bugs off the visor & jacket.

Who said anything worthwhile was simple - they were poo ya!

Howdy, all! Newly registered to this forum, with about 3k miles on my '07 R1200R, purchase last spring. Been reading all the windshield stuff I could find. I wound up with the following solution. Keep in mind, I am 5'10", and replaced my bars with F800ST set (with risers to avoid dinging the bulbous tank). I selected this bike due to its tabula rasa nature; I could modify it in a wide variety of ways to suit my whims. Previous bikes had body work that limited creative customization.

1. I ride around town with no screen. Very free flow of air, nice in warm weather.
2. I commute with a BMW touring screen, which I cut down by about 1.5 inches. This is the key to removing buffeting with that screen. Laid it on the table saw with a fine tooth blade and buzzed it down 1/2" at a time until I was happy with airflow. Some fine sandpaper cleaned up the edge nicely, it actually looks better too. I get clean air from the chin of my helmet up, no buffeting, but good protection for chest.
3. CalSci "large" for cold and wet weather. I get some noise but only slight buffeting. I have tried tilting it, but prefer it in standard position. Don’t like riding behind it because I feel like a cop. But it does a great job keeping me warmer and drier. PS: the item arrived really fast and contained spacers to tilt it back a bit. Cudos to CalSci.

Regarding tilting... before you hack your brackets, try riding with the bottom loop bracket OUTSIDE the plastic hook, resting on the front of it. You can also add spacers to the bottom torx mount (a la CalSci). Good way to test before making permanent changes.

How tall, in inches, is the BMW Tall ("touring") windscreen and the Sport screen?
I know I saw the specs somewhere, but I can't seem to locate them.
