Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars - not sure if I like em- ?
Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars . Removed the old ones without disconnecting anything. Set em in place, put the caps back on- tried different angles. Didn't seem to help much. I didn't go any further. Removed them , put the original ones back on.
I think I will try barbacks now.
I "wonder" if Wundelich will take em back..
I like the MV Barbacks but $265.00, that's kinda rich - ( any one have a set they are not using)
My issue is that my elbows are locked due to short reach. I did improve things by removing the Corbin and putting a low seat on, ( I am flat footed now), but, 5 miles and my wrists hurting and my index fingers and thumbs numb.Carpal tunnel and tendonitis.
Now what? I am happy with the performance, handling and everything else. I am just not comfortable...

Re: Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars - not sure if I like em- ?
Are you saying that your elbows are locked with the Wunderlich bar installed ? You aren't going to get any better reach than these bars give you. Something I forgot to mention earlier was the increased rearward vision. Because the mirrors are farther out I have much better vision behind me, something that was lacking on my previous set of bars. You also get better leverage, so the steering is lighter. I had to play around with the rotation of the bar. It's near perfect now but think I'll rotate it just a pinch forward. I started out rotated down too much and that felt unnatural when riding. If you like a straighter bar then try the bar-backs, but the angle of the grips is probably what's causing the numb wrists.
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.

Airman,
Thanks for the reply, I was hoping you'd chime in.
Yes, my elbows still feel locked with the Wunderlich bars - on the dry fit anyway. Seemed like what they gained was lost in the extra width.. I was surprized. Could be an optical contusion..
Maybe I will try another dry fit and see how it feels. I wish I could decide wheather the bars were too low or just too far away... I guess the bottom line is, I just need to be able to relax my wrists and elbows , a little bend in my elbows is what I am after..
I looked at these today but not sure thatthey would work without changing the brake hose:
These look like they would work well:

These too:

I also looked at the Motor Technique (is that how it's spelled)?
What are our thoughts?
Do you have any pix of your Comfort bars on the bike?
Thanks!!

Those Rox bar-backs are pretty slick, As are the Twisted Throttle units.I'm guessing that you could set up either of these without changing the hoses. I had custom "Ricky" bars that were popular with the GS guys several years ago, but it was a non standard bar size so I never got it quite right. I'd go ahead and set the bars up complete with grips, leave the stock bar on for now if you like. It'd be a lot of trouble to run the grip wires again if you decided you didn't like them. Perhaps what you're looking for is a bar with the depth and grip angle of the Wunderlich, but not so wide ?
I'll go out and snap a few pics for you tomorrow, maybe even with bar comparisons.

You'll notice in those two pictures that there's not a deep bend at the elbows, but they're not locked straight. I've tried to show the angle of the wrists, but I don't know if I was successful. After I looked at these photos I decided I needed to get a big tattoo of that 4" beakster emblem to finish out the look. I do intend to rotate the bars slightly more forward. I think it will put me in a better position for cornering and get the weight back over the front wheel.

That's the stock bar. Note the straighter grip angle and the difference in length.

What the Hey, I found a picture of my old Ricky Bar setup. It still looks great.

My son's about 5'7" so you see the proportion. Stock low seat, stock foot pegs.

Here's the best photo of the whole installation. I used my zillion dollar Nikon for this one rather than my son's pocket Canon. If you're a detail man you'll see that the controls are not quite level. Things don't fall to hand quite the way they should. And I'm going to rotate the bars forward a little like I said. It's not a bad idea to leave off the lower covers to the controls until you have riden it a bit and are satified with the setup. This pic also shows those Grip Puppie grip covers we were talking about on a different thread. Let me tell you those things are great. I've had opportunity to try the grip heat, and I don't think they affect it at all.

Thanks for all the pix!
After seeing the pix I don't think I will install the Comfort Bars. You saved me a ton of time! I had in injury as few years a go and not sure that the turn in on the grips would be doable for me.I was afraid that. I fell off of a ladder onto the drive way a few years ago , broke my wrist in 11 places. Shattered was the term that the Docs used. My left wrist doesn't flex or bend now. The turn in would be miserable.
I did stop at the local BMW dealer yesterday and he had some Gen-Mar rise/pillbacks. Up 1 inch and back 1 3/8 inches. I installed them yesterday, no I need to try em for a bit and adjust to fit. Maybe they will work. If it ever stops raining , I will go for a ride. It's rained 30 of the last 33 days here...
Thanks again for taking the time to take the pix. They helped me more than you could know. I am sure others will find the useful when searching for info on them as well.
Looks like I will sell or return my Wonderlich Comfort bars.

Re: Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars - not sure if I like em- ?
Glad I could help. If you put the bars up for sale here there's always someone looking for them. The least loss would probably be to return tnem even if there's a restocking fee. I was looking at the weather channel a couple days ago and it's hot nearly everywhere. Where do you live to get that much rain ?PUP wrote:Thanks for all the pix!

Re: Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars - not sure if I like em- ?
I'd check the throttle cables, also ,make sure you don't have a fuel leak. Failure of the QD's for the tank on the right side is fairly common. I did a punitive replacement last summer with the brass QD's from Beemerboneyard. Also replaced most of the FI clamps as they sometimes give trouble as well. A good tuneup will sometimes clear up little problems. Do the valve adjustment, throttle body sync, spark plugs, you know the easy but essential stuff.PUP wrote:I called Wunderlich and they said no stocking fee buy if someone here needs em let me know...

Re: Rec'd my Wunderlich Comfort Bars - not sure if I like em- ?
I snipped ALL if the wire ties, found some slack in the cables, etc., and re-wire tied em.. Didn't ID what exactly caused the issue, but seems to be all better now.
Thanks for all od your help.
Boxed up the Comfort bars last night. They will ship out tomorrow for return..
