Shouldn't be a problem, although you probably don't need this answered by now! I am trying the PR2 tires but refused to let go a perfectly good Z6 rear, so am running the PR2 front with the Z6. No issues at all. So far, I like the front PR2 handling and it performed well in the rain riding I have done so far. A new rear PR2 is setting in the basement ready for duty.
I never get more than 6 to 7,000 miles out of a tire, either front or rear, so if they give me any increase in mileage at all, I will be happy.
Almost got the Dunlop Smart tire, or something like that. Their dual compound tire. Seems they may be having some serious thread separations issues. Not worth the hassle to save a few bucks.

Year I sort of think this not being able to mix brands rule is sort of a farce too.
Dirt riders and Dualsport riders do it all the time. I currently have Dunlops on the front and Michelins on the rear of my KLX250S dualsport. Before that the combo was Dunlop/Kenda.
My Roadster came with Michelins and I never deviated from it in the almost 8 years I have owned it simply because I like Michelin motorcyle tires(although their car tires suck and are waaay overpriced) so never really had a reason to mix brands.

There is a favorite corner of mine that is a very good gauge for testing tires. I can go 5mph faster with the PR2 than I did with when the PR1s were fresh all while giving much better feedback and feeling much more stable. The quicker steering and the harder ride is instantaneously noticeable too.
That being said, yes if one does not ride very aggressively, they may not notice the difference between the PR1 & the PR2.
By the way, the PR1s that was replaced still had a lot of tread left on it. I had a valve stem failure so I just had them spoon on a new PR2 while they were at it.
Do you guys hear any noises (e.g., whining???) from your PR2's? After I installed them, they were quiet and fun. After about 500 miles, they started to whine when making left/right hand turns at slow speeds. I've played with air pressures (32/36, 36/38, 38/40) and shock settings, which didn't seen to help. My Ohlins have recently been rebuilt, so I'm ruling out the shocks. I also checked for final drive play; there is none.
This is my first set of PR2's so I don't know of this is normal.
