Cool, what are you running on the front?

That reminds me, right before my accident another member ( Jerry ) came over and we changed his tires, installing some Sync's. He had Conti Attacks and they were a PITA to get off. Being very stiff, and with a thick bead the two of us together barely got the rear off with tire irons, lots of work.
Taking off old syncs is much easier...
It will be interesting to hear some other opinions about these tires..

Here's our bikes afterwards, getting some lunch.

I've still got my Michelin Pilot
Road on the front as it has some tread left but the case with the back one was that it looked OK heading out to a rally but when got back it was defineatly time to get a new tire. I wonder now why I didn't just replace them both at the same time. I'm going to order a front Scorpion tomorrow.

Is riding the prefered way to get the "new" slickness off of the new tire? If so , how many miles are sufficient?

It is.. I'll normally ride 5 miles or so on "less traveled" roads.. doing SLOW "S" turns to scrub off the resin.

Lots of guys have gone down on new tires - thinking they'd stick better than the tires they just replaced. That's not so until you get the resin off the tires.

Good thinkin' replacing them both. :)

For scrubbing in I go to a empty parking and start out slow doing figure eights. After about 10 or 15 minutes I increase my speed and decrease the radius, until I start grinding both footpegs. By that time the tire and nice and warm, so when I start dragging the valve covers, and the pegs are worn down to stubs I know they are scrubbed in properly, and are ready for the Chicago streets. I have to get new footpegs when I change tires, but I've found some aftermarket replacements for about $25. I used to do circles, but one time I threw up in my helmet, so I changed to figure eights.

Eventually I end up with no chicken strips front and rear...

Just kidding! (pain pills OK?) :smt120
I just take it easy and do S turns like NCGS said, when the roads allow. Really though the Syncs don't feel that slick when they're new, like other tires can. Maybe because they're Silicon based tires and/or they don't have that resin coating. The last change I did it rained right after and they didn't feel slick at all, they felt the same as worn in one's do - very good wet traction.
I know this because I usually test out my traction (with throttle/brakes) when it rains and I'm home. The city street's traction when wet changes greatly depending on how clean the streets are. When it's been a while since the last rain they are quite slick at first when it rains, compared to if it just rained a day or two ago. So I check it out...
Just a thought, I'm not saying you don't need to scrub them in... don't end up like me. Just saying you might be surprised how confident they feel shortly after mounting them.
It will be interesting to hear some other opinions about the Syncs'.

Mark, I see you bought the hugger you've been talking about, how do you like it?

I put about 30 miles in on some moderate twisties yesterday and the tire felt perfectly fine. I figured it might feel fine untill that one instant when it didn't feel perfectly fine and landed me on mine arse so I went only moderatly fast.
I LOVE my hugger. Ilmberg( spelling) it looks good and keeps the spray off of my rear shock and off of my wife.
I am trying to convince her that as she rides on the rear of the bike the tire expence is her's. And she is why it wore out first.

I have a Multistrada that came standard with the Pirellis, they work well, about 6k from the rear, the front would have gone farther but I change in pairs. When the R12R is due I may install the pirellis. For do it your self types, Honda sells a set of rim protecters for alloy rims #07772-0020201 they come in sets of three. They are very handy when using irons on aluminium rims.

This is a new one for me...
I spent a few days on my bike in Northern California, taking full advantage of the endless miles of twisty roads, and long sweepers...
Here's what my Pirelli looked like after a few days of battle.
I've squared off many a tires, but never the opposite.
The Syncs give me the confidence to ride at the speeds/lean angles needed to do this. When they heat up it's amazing how sticky they are.

Tell me you tilted the camera to get that shot! How could you get a fully loaded R12R up there with ANY kind of tire?

I installed Conti Sport Attacks on my bike yesterday. Replaced the original michelins. Havent finished scuffing them up yet to say if I like them but my initial impression is good.

I have a Ducati Multistrada that came with the Pirellis, they work great while they last, about 6000 miles for the rear the front would have gone alittle farther. Replaced them with Conti Attacks, have'nt worn them out yet but I don't think they will go much farther than the Pirellis. The Pirellis were better on wet surfaces. The R12R has Z6's about 3000 miles on them, they look as if they are going to last longer. Mabe I don't ride the BMW as hard as the Ducati. I do belive the Pirellis, and the Contis stick better than the Z6's, Just my seat of the pants feel.

Honda has some very nice rim protectors for those that like to change their own tires, pn# 07772-0020201 come in packages or three.
