GPS mounts

I just bought a refurbed Garmin 2720 (yeah I know, there are much better units out there but I am cheap - well at least try to be). Now I am looking for a good way to mount it. I have seen the right off the handle bar clamps method like Don Eilenberger has on his first setup (http://www.eilenberger.net/R1200R_Roads ... Rindex.htm) but want something higher up like Don's second setup (http://www.eilenberger.net/R1200R_Roads ... _Mount.htm). The problem is I have a Ztechnik V-Stream wind screen. Anyone have any good setups they would like to share?

Actually - it's "Don".. but not to mind..

I've very slightly modified the 2nd scheme - and it works even better. I added a few bends in the cross-bar (made a new one actually since it had to be longer with the bends in it to result in the same end to end dimension) - so the GPS is moved slightly towards the windshield. This has several good effects (1) the gps no longer clips off the top 1/4" view of the speedo.. (2) becomes more stable as the GPS mounting weight center is much closer to where the bar bolts into the factory touring mount. Simple modification that made a good thing better.. I'll have to take some photos some time.

I know this is completely off topic, but I remember your photos of the LumaLink mounts for your TT lights that you developed with James Gordy. Did you ever mount them on the bike and if so, can you give us a pic when you're doing the GPS pic?

I've never mounted them - one is sitting here on my desk. There is one modification I think should be done before these mounts are marketed. I've sent an email to Brian about it - but have not heard anything back. I suspect Gordy Tool isn't Brian's primary job, so some communication delays seem to happen. I may just take the parts to work and attack them on a lathe some lunchtime to make the modifications, then send pics back to Brian explaining what I did and why.

So - no - sorry - no mounted pics (actually I have one that I did take of one light mounted, but since it isn't what I'd consider a final design, it's only been seen by Brian.)

I recently got a factory refurb Garmin 2820 and am using a ram mount off the bars. It does work very well. Blocks the bottom of the tac only and can still use a tank bag. I'm also using the Ztecknik shield. On a different topic, I've discovered that there is an error with the Garmin unit. After transferring a custom route to the GPS unit the Garmin will sometimes not follow the route that was created. It will sometimes draw straight lines across blocks where there are no roads. I confirmed this with Garmin and they are working on a fix. Just an FYI as I believe the 2720 and 2820 are basically the same thing. Here are a couple photos of my current set up.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've had a 2720 in my car for years. You don't have to apologize for it, my Zuma 550 doesn't do any better a job.

Now, back to our regular programming...
