Is 1150 as comfortable as 1100?

Hey all, trying to decide between 1150 and 1100. I am mainly concerned with comfort instead of power differences. I have never sat on a 1150, but have borrowed a R1100r for a weekend and found the ergonomics very comfortable. Of course I had rather buy newer if older. So do any of you have firsthand experience in a comparison between the the two as far as seat/peg/handlebar ergonomics. Are they the same?

I just picked up a "new 2004 r1150r last weekend, and had my first ride, other than 2 demo rides. It was extremely comfortable, but I can only compare to my f650gs. It probably depends on your height and inseam and torso dimensions too. I'm 5'9" and have no problems flat footing the bike or my riding posture. I've heard, just hearsay, that the stock seat is pretty bad after 100 miles. Other good things, not related to power, about the 1150 compared to the 1100 are the dual spark (more fuel efficient and less prone to surging) and much better brake cables.Good luck with the decision

I had an r850r for a while and then went bikeless for a few years before picking up the 1150r. From what I remember they were much more similar than different. I seem to recall liking the seat on the 850...it had that little curved back support built in. I also liked the fact that the seat was adjustable.

With that said, I prefer the 1150. I think that the bars, controls and looks/styling are better suited to my liking. One thing I never really cared for were the oil coolers hanging out in the wind on the 850.

"Comfort" is obviously subjective.

Strictly assessed by ergonomics, here are some points to ponder:
R850/1100R has three seat height positions, but fixed fore/aft position and distance to handlebar;
R850/1100R has cast handlebar pieces, though aftermarket clamps allow use of tubular handlebar options;
R850/1100R uses upright posture paradigm, which begs for a windshield in other than slow-speed conditions;
R1150R has two seat types, each with fixed seat height;
Several aftermarket seat options exist for R1150R that vary in height, firmness, materials;
R1150R handlebar clamp allows use of Roadster, Rockster, or aftermarket handlebars appropriate to rider ergonomics;
R1150R aftermarket handlebar risers/"bar-backs" can be used to vary handlebar position;
R1150R has several BMW and aftermarket windshield options, but is also "comfortable" when ridden without;
Both bikes have (or used to have) foot peg lowering kits.;
Choice of windshield for either bike will result in turbulent air flowing somewhere at/on/over rider.

We've owned R850R, R1100R, R1150R Roadster and Rockster. All have proven comfortable in the right combination of seat & handlebar position for a given rider, and each one has been a torture test when the combination wasn't right.

I've only test ridden the 1100 and seem to remember that is was comfortable. I own an '02 1150R and absolutely love it. Especially now that I purchased a custom leather seat from Rick Meyers. Wow, what a difference! The stock seat was pretty painful after about 45 minutes. I'm 6'2 and about 235 and have no problems with the ergonomics of the bike. I would never own any other bike. In my opinion, The R1150R is more comfortable than the older R1100R. And even better than the R1200R. You could ride the R1150R for all day and not tired.
