Got reared :(

Post by OU812 »

Well....I just got rear ended by some bitch in her mini van and drove away. knocked me down and broke a bag and what ever else. Of course her plate was not registered. So no riding for me until it gets put back together.

Glad you're OK...

Plate not registered? How can that be?

Possible fraudulent plate. At least she got out to asked if I was OK. Can't believe she drove off. Lucky for me I was in a turning position as if I was straight she would have put me out into traffic. [-o<

Sorry to hear that. It takes forever for insurance to pay, and it sounds like the person who hit you will not be found or does not have insurance.

It happened to me about two years ago

Sitting at the rt 68 east red light exit ramp northbound rt 53 for about 10 seconds and bam, I am on the pavement. lucky for me I was pointed to turn or she would have put me into traffic. Well I was lucky in the respect of injury. Had my armored jacket and chaps and fell to my left(good shoulder). Knee and hip are sore but the cheap insurance paid for this. I will still ride Sunday minus left side case(as it will not stay on). Really amazed me as she got out of her van to ask if I was OK and drove off.
I am not shaken, but stirred.
So, let's ride! ;)

Since hte plate isn't currently registered, can the police go back to the person it was previously registered to?

Glad to hear you're ok. So it was kind of like a hit-n-run? Good luck on finding the driver. When you do find them, make sure they pay.

Hope you reported this to the police. Wasn't clear to me if you had. Even if she stopped to check on you, if she left the scene without providing her DL and insurance info, it's clearly a Hit and Run. Damage to the bike may be relatively minor, but it's still damaged. You say your only sore, but you've been damaged too.

So, if you haven't reported this to the cops, please do so. If it was truly a bogus plate there may have been other illegal activities involved. Of course maybe your cops have too much to do to track down this idiot. But, if the plate number is in the system it might just pop into the sights of a LEO.

Glad you survived, as you said it could have been a hell of a lot worse. I'm so paranoid about it I keep one eye on the mirrors at all times. One of the worst accidents I saw in my 26 years of fire service was a Canadian couple on a Harley sitting at a red light...they were hit from the rear by a drunk doing about 50-60 mph...those poor folks never had a chance....

Ride safe (and watch out for idiots, they're gainin' on ya!)!

Steve! Glad you're okay. You'll never find this lady. The best thing for motorcyclists to do in this situation is to make damn sure you see a vehicle arrive slowly behind you in the mirror and stop. If you don't see that pretty quick, then run the f**cking light and get the hell out of danger's path. On those seldom occasions, I would much rather take the chance on a ticket than take the chance on some idiot cruising up to the light like its not there.

We are too often overly programmed to obey the "law" rather than try to survive.

I was waiting for he traffic to pass so there was no where to go even if I had seen her coming. I don't think she was traveling all that fast when she popped me. Her plate could have been out of state as I was trying to get the numbers in my head as she drove away. I thought she was just moving off to the shoulder not leaving the scene. She was maybe 50 ft when I started looking at her plate. One fellow stopped to help me pick the bike up and find all the pieces. What goes around comes around.

OH!!!!!! Rear ended. I was thrown off by the title of the thread. :smt064

sorry to hear about that Steve. But........... my bad experience with illegals last year when they totaled my car ended up working out pretty good for me. Insurance paid out more than double of what I had assumed they would pay, and I got a sweet ride out of it!!

So - here's hoping your insurance company treats you good! :smt023

Estimate for repairs was just over $4k. I hope the lawyers find this person and get her of the road.

See, I told you.
You should have bitch-slapped her down to the pavement and put your boot on her neck when you had the chance.
