R1200R 2008 v 2009 model and MSRP

Post by OliverB »

I am planning on getting an R1200R in the next little while, and have been lurking here, and gathering information - very informative - thanks everyone. :D

I had a quick question to recent purchasers - I just noticed that the MSRP on the main BWM website (MSRP: $12,620 here: http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/bikes/bik ... tion=urban) is lower than the number that appears when you do the finance calculator ($13,115 here: http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/financing ... &x=14&y=13). (I selected TX, where I live).

Did BMW raise prices?

Secondly, I am tempted by the Oct financing they are offering (half the interest rate of anything I can find on the open market) - but it is for the 2008 model. Is there any compelling reason for a not-very-ambitious rider (i.e. not interested in testing the limits of the bike) to wait for the 2009 model? I couldn't find one myself, but perhaps I missed something?

Thanks everyone for a great forum.

BMW is really sweetening the deal to buy a 2008 model, but I couldn't find a 2008 with the options I want (ABS, ASC and TPMS). If I could find a 2008 with this, I'd buy it NOW.

I agree with Roman. If you can find a 2008 that you like then get it. If you are going to pay cash then you might want to contact his dealer and try to get his same killer deal. If you are financing through BMW, I believe you have to be present to sign papers.

Thanks for the advice. Put a deposit down on my '08 R1200R!! Very excited, and waiting on details of delivery. Standard package (ABS, clear lenses, computer etc) was all that was out there - but this is fine for me, with the exception of the low seat.

BTW detailed spectrophotometer analysis showed that granite gray metallic is a little faster than the others, contrary to previous posts, so that is what I opted for... :D

Congratulations! That's a good thing to be excited about. Hope you enjoy it as much as you anticipate.

But, you need to have your spectrophotometer calibrated. While there is some controversy about whether the pinstripes are a net plus or a minus, it's well established that the black ones are the fastest.

I talked to my dealer last Saturday, he said for the 09 R1200R's will be available with new colors, white, and blue, NLA. crystle gray, black with stripes. The lower R12R will be available as well. He had no 08 R12R's but the 08 black with stripes were still available. Price for the 09's not known yet.
