my ratings:
MaxBMW (the m&m's give em a .1 point edge over...)
I've used their parts locator several times, but the prices look full list.
Bob's BMW (got my cherry, still love 'em)
Hammersly, one transaction no problems
A&S one transaction no problems
Sierra BMW (Reno, NV) several transactions in person and via mail good guys
Good range of acessories. Ordered twice, had good service
BMW of Santa Cruz one transaction no problems
don't go there......unless of course you have to:
Manhattan BMW
(gave me the "don't use car-rated oil" speech when I stopped in last summer to get a filter and some plugs and stuff while on a road trip)
And never again, for love nor money:
Chicago BMW
I bought my system cases there, Exhaust lowering kit, GS hand guards, ordered engine parts several times. Shipping will be high on small orders so I try to get an order together that makes it worthwhile. I've had good advice from the parts guys and no problems with any of my orders.I use them for the 20% discount.
all for now.....

I can understand if delivery takes a while, an organisation may be short-staffed, low inventory etc. I am also prepared to wait. What I cannot comprehend is an inability to answer subsequent emails over a week when my first one was answered within 2 days, and when the email needed is a confirmation whether the sale is on.

That's why I always call them. :-)bikermeow wrote:I can understand if delivery takes a while, an organisation may be short-staffed, low inventory etc. I am also prepared to wait. Back in 2002 I rebuilit a Saudi Arabian Military R100/7, which had laid in the desert for 15 years. I needed a lot of parts , so I tried most of the vendors but the best was Bobs in Maryland.

Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
An update, guys.
Called Chicago, and was told that their email system is down. They are really busy, so no indication that they will call me when my order is processed (well, at least they are forthright!). They place their orders twice a week, and it takes 2 weeks for the parts to ship from Germany.
Contemplating their domestic shipping charges versus the re-transhipment to the far east.
On a separate note, I bought a DVD and tank pads from BMW Santa Cruz to ship to an address in Canada and guess what? UPS called and asked me to appoint them as Canadian customs agent to process the order. This is completely new to me, the total order was $43 and shipping was $16 so I wonder how much UPS will skin me for. Anyone had the same experience?
Cheers

Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
I ordered a couple of parts from Holt BMW yesterday around lunch time. They were on the front porch when I got home today. Can't get much better than that.

Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
Does Holt or Bob's have a comprehensive selection of parts? I am buying specific nuts and bolts for an airhead, hence.

Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
Holt keeps a decent inventory, and Marvin, their parts guy, can find about anything.
I don't know about Bob's.
Another place that is local to me is http://www.re-psycle.com They specialize in Airheads, and have lots of parts.

I'm learnign the hard way. I ordered some parts two weeks ago and find it hard to see the status. No real updates, and I hope they'll be here soon.OU812 wrote:I have seen their parts dept. and it is a clusterfuk.WildBlue wrote:I have had ZERO issues with Chicago BMW. Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
If you ever want to know ANYTHING about your parts status with Chicago, you MUST pick up the phone. They were very informative to me, and I called them so much, they overnighted the package (without my knowledge) too me at no extra charge.

Re: Purchasing Internet Boxer Parts
Chicago was good when I called them, they explained their situation with the email and was candid enough to say that they are slow cos' of volume. Given the discount that they give, I reckon that it is a trade-off for the slower and non-responsive service. However, as they do not ship internationally, I did not use them.
I have written to Holt, and I am still waiting for a reply; it has been quite a few days.
