R1150R clock works intermittently

Post by Biped »

My 2004 R1150R is a great bike with one weird problem -- the clock will stop working for no reason that my dealer can find (they replaced the clock once already) and then start working again. It appears random; at least I can't associate any specific events with this behavior. I have another service appointment scheduled but I may cancel it. The dealer's only idea is to replace the clock again. Any other ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Check wiring around headpost for chafing & separation. Wiggle while those wires while testing clock feed wire with voltmeter. Check if you have voltage at Aixilliary socket when clock isn't working, if none, the problem is probably at fuse block...

Thanks, Sunbeemer. Good suggestions. I'm electrically challenged, so it will be good to have something to tell the dealer to try. They seem as clueless as me, but I'm not charging for the service.

I picked up the bike today with the clock problem solved. It turned out to be a broken fuse that appeared at a glance to be normal but only made an intermittent connection. At least that was the way it was explained to me. Seems plausible.
