Well, I think the Rockster is toast...
So, left for California last Monday. Got here (I have some great pics I will post when I get back in town)... Got rear ended in some town just outside of Santa Cruz... Yup, sitting minding my own business. Got sandwiched. Luckily the bike took the impact, totaled the ladies car that hit me, and I did some bouncing around... rear wheel is bent up, tank is dented, whole instrument cruster is hanging, leaking brake fluid, scractched cylinder and cover, dented exhaust, messed up seat, and that's just what I can see.... The lady in the truck in front of me said I flew into her truck when I got hit... Now I'm at a hotel waiting to call my insurance agent on Monday. Bike is at Santa Cruz BMW. Yes, I'm OK. Waring full gear and I think the big tank bag and the tent and sleeping back behind me helped cushion the impact....
Careful out there...

Ves,
Sorry to hear about the early demise of such a great bike, but happy to hear that you are okay. The up side is that this accident makes you a motorcycle widower and you can choose another one without feeling like you are cheating on the Roc. When you are feeling up to it, I recommend test driving the new K1200GT. You will never be the same ... even after your retinas finally reattach. I've always had transportation commitment issues, but this new KGT has both overwhelmed and seduced me. If you hate your money, go check one out and test drive it if you can.

Ves, sorry about your bike. Glad to hear you are okay. Still I would get checked out by a doctor just to be sure.
Looking forward to your pictures.
PS: Do you need help with transportation?

Re: Well, I think the Rockster is toast...
Thanks. Yeah, main thing is I'm OK. I have a small bruise on my hip. And I went swimming in the hotel pool and felt fine... we'll see how I feel tomorrow.... The rest is just metal, plastic, and rubber. I think part of the reason I faired so well was the way I had my gear set up... I had a big fully loaded tank bak on the tank and a trunk, tent, and sleeping bag in back. I know they they cushioned the impact... both from behind and in front when I got pushed into the truck in front of me...
I'll calll my insurance agent Monday and see what he recommends... I figure they will either pay for a car rental so I can drive back or fly me... we'll see...
Dang, it was such a short relationship... I liked that bike... maybe I can just get a replacement Rock...

Ves - glad you 're OK. Very sorry to learn of the crash; especially crappy during your vacation. Let us know this all turns out.
<edit>... and grab those new Ohlins when you next check out the bike. Damage description sound like close to totalled, if force was sufficient to taco the rear wheel. Your neck and back hurt, whether you realize it or not, and the only cure is a new R1200S. Doctor's orders.

Ves,
Of course, I'm very sorry to hear the awful news. But, I couldn't be happier to hear the good news.

Ves,
Sorry to hear about your "baby". but extremely glad to hear your ok. You should still go to the doc and get checked out, sometimes pains, soreness and aches don't show up for a couple of days. Better safe than sorry.

A Ves sandwich could have been much worse! Glad you are OK! With all that damage, it may be better to put it down and look for another. Good luck either way!

Ves,
Glad to hear you are OK. Get a new Rock.
Grab the Ohlins, and any undamaged accessories. Your bike is toast. tank = $1300+, rear wheel = $500+, instrument cluster = $300+.

Re: Well, I think the Rockster is toast...
Well, as far as Santa Cruz BMW is concerned it's official, they called me today, the bike is toast... added to the list of damage are cracked front frame, bent rear subframe, and damaged drive shaft... there's more, but they focused on the major stuff and stopped estimating when they got past the value of the bike... So, it's just a matter of settling with the insurance company now. The real good news is that six days after the incident I'm still feeling good and discoloration on the hip bruise is starting to go away. No residual effects.
I've already given my insurance company the receipt for the Ohlins and other items I'd purchased recently and they assured me that those items would be part of the settlement. So, hopefully I can put this behind me quickly.
You know what the first thing is that I'm buying for my next motorcycle? A tail light flasher !!

I am very glad that you came out of the accident OK. It could have been much worse! I am not so sorry about the bike, though, as you seem to really have the hots for the K1200GT. Now you can get whatever your heart desires...garylspolar wrote:I put 'em on every motorcycle and bicycle I've owned. And thanks for the cautionary heads up. I have been putting off getting a brake light flasher, but now it's my very next addition. Hell, even one of the flashers they sell for bicycles would be better than nothing in the meantime, silly as it would look on the rear rack.
