Hello from another newbie
Greetings everyone: Brian here.
I was recently suckered in by a dirty dog of a dealer that gave me an R1200R for a loaner while my new 1200GS was in for her first service. I had the R for a full weekend and had so much fun I didn't want to return it, but did. Several weeks later I was still missing that bike. So yesterday I went to my dealer and traded in my GS (only 3500 km) and ordered a black R1200R.
I never really took to the GS, at 6'1" 215 I found the "R" to be much more comfortable and exciting. Different horses for different courses I guess. I'm not going to try and figure it out, I'm just going to enjoy riding the roadster!
I've read online where some people are unhappy with the seat on the R. I found it to be a bloody gift from the heavens and could sit on it forever. I'm looking forward to picking up my new bike next week.
Thanks for being here,
Brian

Re: Hello from another newbie
Brian,
Welcome to the forum. You're another victim of the sucker-test-ride-syndrome. On a lot of people all it takes is one test ride on the R1200R and you're absolutely hooked. I'm resisting test riding an '08 because it would be silly to own two of the same bike. Thing about the bike is - it doesn't get any better.. there are lots of us who are hooked on trying to wear the things out, without success. We just keep riding and riding and riding them.. to the detriment of job, family, wife, car, etc. NTTAWWT.
I'm sure you'll love the bike once it arrives. What options did you get on it?

Welcome Brian! It's a fabulous motorcycle. I will be interested in your opinion about that seat after a few hours, though.
Don, you've stumped me with this one, buddy. What does "NTTAWWAT" mean?deilenberger wrote:NTTAWWT

Hi Brian, Welcome - I also came from an R1200GS after 14000k, traded on a R1200R a couple of weeks ago, and even out this morning, 200k's in the rain and a sport screen I still prefer the R1200R.

Me arse is rated "R" rather than "GS"..........
Re: Hello from another newbie
I also thought the seat was more than acceptable. However, half way through my second season I'm finding it worse and worse. It is absolutely unbearable for my passenger and she is an absolute trooper. I'm going to bite the bullet and I think I'm leaning towards a Corbin so I have the option of the back rest that connects to the seat so I don't have to put the luggage rack on the back.
