More Sun-n-Fun 2008

Post by jb44 »

Day 2 and another hour sitting in traffic before getting to the gate of the parking lot. Four lanes of vehicles funneling into one main gate where cars enter one at a time.

Then you get to walk a half mile through this to the ticket booth:

If you ride your bike you get to park next to the entrance gate.

These were hot a few years ago. Where did they all go? Honda Rune:

Another confession……….. I’m a vendor junkie. There isn’t a product-hawking booth that I won’t stop at. Four hangersful and scores of outdoor vendor tents. Several hours spent ogling every aviation related goody imaginable.

These big float planes are very appealing.

This little invention was very impressive; a 3 axis, counter-weighted, flight simulator to use with your home computer. Your whole body moves in relation to your control stick inputs.

My engine of choice for an LSA:

A ballistic recovery system. What’s your life worth?

Homeland Security was there.

A deep ocean submersible from the U of Miami.

And this gem, a 1932 Auburn.

A rotary engined bike and aircraft.

And finally I found what I thought was my perfect little sight-seeing plane; a two seat, high wing, tricycle geared beauty. I was ready to get out my checkbook.

How much could it be? ……..well maybe in another lifetime……..
… a mere $100K (sigh).

A virtual plethora of vehicles: Airplanes, helicopters, submarines(?), boats, cars, motorcycles and scooters!

JB,

I enjoyed your report. I work at an airfield with a lot of float planes and even a couple anphibs. My BMW parking spot is right behind a really nice Cessna 185 on floats. Great photos !
I don't get caught in the rain, I ride in it on purpose.

That would be heaven to me.

I've always wanted to get my seaplane rating. And Jack Brown's seaplane school in Winter Haven is only a 30 minute ride from my Florida home.

Haven't flown since I lost my medical about 5 years ago. But every year during Sun n Fun, I get the bug again. I keep looking at ultra lights and LSA's. Just can't find one in my price range.
