Clunking

Post by Shortpower »

Please tell me this is normal. I have noticed that, when I suddenly open the throttle at low speeds in the lower grars, there is a distinct "clunking" sound that appears to come from the driveline. When I put the bike on the centerstand, and rotate the rear wheel (in neutral) back and forth, I can hear the clunk. I assume this is just the normal freeplay in the rear drive gearing. Is it? My bike has 1310 miles and I love it.

Normal. You're taking up the play in the transmission/rear-drive.

I thought so--thanks Don! That's why some people like loud pipes--they drown out strange noises. I can think of a few Ducatis that need them.
