I'd buy one, but I'm not paying $300+ for a carbon fiber hugger, when a good quality black plastic one would do what needs to be done.

Both the carbon and plastic ones have been available for quite a while. Do a search - Hornig or NippyNormans should have them among others.

Interesting.. from Nippy Normans -

"THIS PRODUCT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR EXPORT OUT OF EUROPE"

Hornig only lists one - for the R1200GS.

I found others, but most are CF, and out of my price range for what they are.

Mine is carbon fiber. You get over the steep price or I did anyway. It is a good product that keeps the poo off of my wife when she is on the back and there was no need to fiddle with anything at install. just install.

I just have to ask.
Being from NYC I'm not the most trusting soul in the world, but I don't understand why people cover or obscure their license plate in the pictures on these forums. Seems to be mostly on the Beemer forums. Did someone have a bad experience or is this the result of some urban legend.
I know this is off subject, but if I'm exposing myself to a problem by showing my plate I'd like to know. :-k

To tell you the asolute truth ( I am from Tennessee and am a very trusting soul ) I covered my plate because most other people do it. I gave it very little thought.

rear hugger

Post by andyman99 »

I bought a rear hugger from Nippy Norman back in April '07. They happily shipped it from the UK to southern California. It fit nicely using the existing bolts, but for some reason, the bolts keep working loose. Perhaps a bit of lock-tite next time.

I also bought a front fender extender at the time, but realized I would have to drill holes in the front fender to attach the extender.

I bought a hugger, fromNippyNorman I think. I found it was catching on the standard plastic shock cover. It was causing a loud squeak when I went over a big bump. I had to cut a bit off the cover. It seems OK now.

Thanks for the pic on the Nippy Normans hugger - though it confirms my decision to go with the Ilmbereger CF one.

It appears from this pic that the front mount for the NN hugger is on the Paralever - which to my untutored mechanical mind suggests it would be subject to some flexing (albeit minor) each time the paralever does its job. I thought this was the case from the pics on their website.

The Ilmberger CF hugger (? as sold on by Hornig, Wunderlich, SW Motech et al) mounts only on the brake mounts, solely on the wheel side of the paralever. It works well enough to be completely unobtrusive, and I haven't noticed any 'spray line' in 7,000km so far, so it's coverage must be effective.

... but I did have to get over the price!

Unless yours is different from mine.. mine mounts to the rear drive itself - with two provided screws that replace the top two case screws on the rear drive.

Luckily I found mine on Ebay and no one here noticed it :P

HUGGER

Just got a quote from Nippy Norman...49 Euro for shipping to So Cal via UPS. That's a deal killer. Anyone know of a domestic product or source?
