Our Georgia club group has done this for the second year in a row now. Its just too much fun and at the perfect time of year in a beautiful part of western NC.
The ride report can be read here:

Phil,
I thought that the powers that be would be banning fires in campgrounds in your area, due to the drought. How is your water situation?

DJ- Brats (short for bratwurst) are big fat juicy hot dogs.

Jeff-The drought is mostly downstream from the two big lakes that feed Atlanta, Florida and Alabama-Lake Alatoona and Lake Lanier. In other words the metro Atlanta area is hurting the most. Governor Perdue is trying to get the feds to curtail the Army Corps of Engineers policy of sending water to Florida and Alabama. It rained recently up there near the campsite, so fire was not a problem. It's just that the area is about 20 inches short for rain, so the lakes are drying up fast. We may have to start group showering!

The Appletree is a beautiful (I can't think of a better word to describe it) place.
I've never camped there, but we have hiked the trails surrounding the campground. My grandson & I did a 6.2 mile hike there in July. Very nice.
