New shoes (tires) for my bike...

Post by reyb »

After looking at the various threads about tires in the 1150R forum, I decided to go with the Metzlers Z6. I bought them online at swmototires.com. Me being in San Diego and them being in Tucson, I was able to place the order around 3pm yesterday and I got them this morning! One questiotn I have about new tires. Do/should you scuff them up a little bit so as to get that factory slippery film off? I recall talking to a guy who got new tires and took a spill. He attributed it to the tires being slippery because they were new.

First 100 mile ride strive for gentle leaning at first, then progressive speed and lean. Also go 25-40 miles; stop/rest; 25-40 more to induce multiple heat cycles.

That's scuffing.
