BMW rear wheel balance....
Marty, Because of the single side swing arm, the BMW rear wheel requires a "special" adapter to balance the wheel. So, not all motorcycle dealers are equipped to balance the rear wheel of a BMW.... some are but not all. If you do it yourself you can buy the wheel balancer from Marc Parnes ...

I pondered the same issue....
Walt, A couple of weeks back I asked a similar question of myself and of the board members. I have taken a couple/few tours on my R and, yes, it can and does make the tour. I just thought maybe I might want something a bit more specific to the task rather than our "jack of all trades" R115...

I KNOW!!!!
Dallara, I'm not trying to compare Yamahas to Hondas, or Japanese bikes to German bikes, or sport touring to touring, or start a war here BUT!! When my girlfriend loves the 2005 Honda VTX 1300R for $8k (yup that's correct) and I can get a 2006 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado (for example) for $12500... th...

Let's ship it here and I'll ride it back!?
Dallara, Man that's quite an offer and tempting too, but I don't think I can wait! Interestingly enough, I went to a Yamaha dealer yesterday to bring my girlfriend see the V Star 1100 Silverado. She has a 2002 Honda Shadow ACE and is thinking about getting something a bit more substantial than her 7...

sure is fun....
Yep, it sure is fun just finding out which bike is the next one. Like Ian said, our R does it all and there is really no reason for me to consider a change other than I can and I ready for it. I am in no rush and Dallara, you're right! It sure is fun. Last night while I was staring at the TV, I was ...

GS and RR no faring
Yeah Tomski, I know about the airflow. What I need/want is a couple/few different bikes! The GS although very nice in it's own class, just isn't going to do it for me. I am looking for something that does the 3k or 4k mile trip and is more specifically designed to do so, i.e. ergos, fairing, bigger ...

R1200RT vs K1200GT what could I expect?
Hello all, I recently posted a question about touring bikes, i.e. Goldwing, LT, etc. and after reading suggestions by the board members, I want to check out the 1200RT and the 1200GT. I know one is our 2cyl Boxer engine and the other is the K bike. What does this really mean to me, the rider and wha...

Here here.. or is it HEAR HEAR!!!?
Bob, You had me laughing about this but it's true. The RT, GT, FJR, etc are all nice machines but thay ain't got nothin' to do with the question! I guess some people's enthusiasm about their favorite(s) is just overwhelming. I can say that after reading about some of the sport bikes, though, I might...

Great responses .... thanks
I appreciate all the responses on my question(s). This is what is so great about this board. A good friend is thinking about buying an 1150R. I referred him to this board and he was amazed at the friendly, knowledgeable people here. Acacia, man I'll bet there are some great stories to go along with ...

conflicted....
Hey Cycle Rob.... yeah I've been away for a while. I relocated from Houston to Miami and these people expect me to work more and play less!!! Geez... I like most of what I have heard about the Goldwing but like I said, I guess I'm just not ready for the size and the bulk. I'd really like to sit on t...

Might have to expand my options?
Dallara, thanks again. I kinda sorta thought that the LT and the Goldwing were alone in their class but as I said, I really don't know much about this class of bike so I thought I'd ask those who are in the know. BTW, Gary, I did consider the Yamaha Royal Star Venture and I have not crossed it off t...

Touring not Sport Touring
Thanks for all the replies. I was looking more for an answer like Dallara's, that is, comparing 2 of the well know touring bikes. I also wanted to hear anything about other bikes in the class of the Goldwing or the LT. I consider the 1150rt, 1200rt, gs's, etc to be Sport Touring bikes, and while the...

If you were to buy a touring bike.... which one?
Would it be the BMW K1200LT?
Would it be the Honda Goldwing?
What else falls into this class?
I am thinking, that is thinking ,about getting a full blown touring bike but I don't know anything about them. What do you know or what have you heard?
Thanks in advance for the info.....
Donald

maintainance minutia
Thanks guys for the response. I figured it was about time to replace the washers on the next fluid(s) change. I too believe if it doen't leak why bother but then I thought they must put those washers in there for some reason. Ditto on the valve cover gaskets. Thanks again Boxer, I am in Miami now (w...

maintainance questions: gaskets, o-rings, crush washers, etc
My '02R has 18K miles on it and I am doing some routine maintainence. I have a few questions that I thought I might pose to the board to see what opinions are out there: How often do you replace your valve cover gaskets? Do you replace the round one also? When you replace your fuel filter, do you re...

I'd rather do it myself anyway...
Guys thanks for the information and the opinions. I did call a couple of other dealers in the area before I called the BMW dealer. Both said they could and would be glad to take care of the front wheel but neither was capable of balancing the rear wheel. I did not get into questioning the reason why...
