Re: The Wrong Bike

I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes. I thought it was truly one of the most humorous things I've seen in months. I can sympathize with your withdrawal symptoms a bit. My black, 2009 R1200R arrived hours before I flew from Chicago to China, so I won't get to see the new, shiny, ride until late N...

Re: ABS is good for you!

TAK, Thanks...you answered the question I was afraid to ask (directly). My F800ST ABS deposited me in the middle of an intersection about 30 minutes ago. I know there's a minor 'frost heave' right at the stop sign by my house, but today I was having a bit too much fun; tried some 'spirited' braking ...

Re: ABS is good for you!

Thanks to both of you for your replies. This issue is a bit sensitive within the F800 community and your replies were more informative than I could have expected. Sincere thanks. I'm still waiting for my R1200R, but am hoping to 'join the fold' soon. [it was put on a truck on 10 October...where is I...

Re: ABS is good for you!

Is the 'ABS-III' on the R1200R the same basic ABS that I have on my F800ST (without the partial integration of front-rear)?

For some reason, I got the impression that the R1200R had a newer version of the system.

Thanks in advance.

Matt,
Congratulations on the 'new' bike. I'm sure it will be a fun ride and I can't wait to join the club, too.

Please check you PM inbox.

Re: R1200R 2008 v 2009 model and MSRP

BMW is really sweetening the deal to buy a 2008 model, but I couldn't find a 2008 with the options I want (ABS, ASC and TPMS). If I could find a 2008 with this, I'd buy it NOW.

Re: Ordering New R1200R

Dauntless,
My dealer (near Green Bay, WI) says that he has two bikes arriving TODAY and that it is possible that one is mine...I hope we both have some good news to report in the morning!

Re: Disturbance

I ride an F800ST today, counting minutes and badgering my dealer until my 2009 R1200R gets trucked from NJ to Wisconsin. The F800ST and the F800GS have a lot of differences, but they share the Rotax engine, and that may be second half of the reason I decided to trade the F800ST off. (the weight dist...

Re: Ordering New R1200R

Dauntless,
Thanks - I checked the BMW website and the $1000 is for 2008 models, but I had to order a 2009 to get the options I wanted, so the deal doesn't include my bike....I still appreciate the message.

Regards

Huh? Let me check this out...I wasn't going to finance it because their rates are not great, but that makes a difference.

Thanks - truly.

Re: Ordering New R1200R

Since you're talking about ordering, I have learned that my new R1200R is on the ship, heading this way as of last week. Does anyone know how long the trip takes across the Atlantic to NJ, and then how longs it stays there before getting shipped to the dealer? Thanks

Re: What is your favorite gear line up?

When I bought my F800ST, I got a BMW Rallye 2 jacket "free". Man-oh-man, THAT is a nice piece of kit. It's heavy, but the armor, the fit, the construction is great. I'm not sure that I'd spend $750 of my money on another, but it IS nice. On my head I traded my HJC for a Scorpion EX-400. Ve...

Re: Appropriate Cylinder head protection, FINALLY !

This is not my field of engineering, so I'm looking for a bit of education. I noticed that they are described as being made of 'mild' steel [aka, low carbon steel]. Does this mean that they will bend in a tipover, instead of break/crack? Is the the chassis of a bike made of the high carbon type of s...

KA5YSY & Icecave,
Thanks for such a complete answer. I did order the hard sided bags with the bike. I just haven't picked a windscreen yet. (I thought that would be an easy decision).

Now if the guys in the factory would just hurry....

Re: Appropriate Cylinder head protection, FINALLY !

Serious question from someone still waiting on the r1200r on order:

If I install a set of these (and I really think they'll look good with the black paint) on my new bike, when I drop it (not if...) will I only scratch these and the bar end weights?

If so, they are a bargain...
