Touring bike tips
Hi: I regret selling my R1150R last year. Shortly after selling it I bought a Guzzi California and later a Yamaha Road Star - (it was a buyers market). I miss the precision and handling of R. Lately, I became interested in touring. I am confused by the various models offered by BMW: Phoenix, Montauk...

Need your advice-Please.
Hi: I have been off the board for some time because I made the mistake of selling my R1150R and started flirting with Guzzi and a Yamaha Roadstar. I still have the Guzzi and the Roadie. I am in the market for a BMW touring bike, but I am confused with the Phoenix, Mountak, R1200cl and R1150Rt. What ...

Re: Thanksgiving Travel
Thanks for the posts which have helped me on two ways: First I was able to make list for things to have for winter travel . Second : LionLady's advice is sound. It is true that the traffic can be blocked up for miles around that area. I did not realize that weaving through the traffic has its own pi...

Thanksgiving Travel
2002 R1150R 63000 mi Dear All: First of all: Happy Thanksgiving. I am planning to visit my younger brother this Thanksgiving, travelling from Princeton, NJ to Williamsburg VA. I have never ridden in November, but I want to. Today I took a 25 mi test drive to check my gear in about 39F. My gear inclu...

San diego Trip report
I had to attend a conference in San Diego for 5 days this week. The sessions end around noon, so there was time on hand. I am not the one for fancy dining or chit chat with friends so I had decided earlier to rent a bike. The bike in my mind was of course a BMW. However, on searching the web I came ...

Re: Twin Max - don't own a bike without one!
I had tuned my bike with the home made, 3 bucks manometer, and as a result the bike ran great. However, I had doubts on my contraption, just because it was not 'electronic'. So I ordered a Twinmax. I was surprised to find that even under Twimmax's max senstivity, the manometer adjustments were the s...

BMW rental in San Diego
I will be attending a conference in SD this week. But I also want to ride around in the spare time.
Do you know of a reputable BMW cycle rental agency?
Please offer any tips regarding a rental bike, and riding in SD.
Thanks

Ski suit?
I read the 'keeping warm' post and hurriedly bought a Balaclawa from the local Di-k's Sporting. After donning the newly acquired peice, I rode in cold windy condition on I 95- S for 50 minutes. I liked the warmth it gave my bald head and face. It also fit nicely under the helmet. The ride was pleasu...

Re: Longer than "Winterizing"?
Also make sure that you plug the mufflers.
I once had an R which sat in a barn. When I tried to start, it would just make wierd noises.
Finally it fired up but disgorged a mouse and her brood from one of the mufflers.

Winterizing
R1150R 2002
I smelt the sweet aroma of burning wood and saw smoke belching from many a chimney today in my neighborhood while as I was leaving my house on the bike.
Few more days left to ride. Sigh.
Are there any tips to winterize the bike? I do not like to ride in cold weather.

Re: Oil weeping at the coolers
If both sides are leaking then they did not secure the clamps properly.
Check all the clamps.
Hope this helps.

Re: Oil weeping at the coolers
Is the oil leaking from both or one of the coolers? Examine both coolers carefully, use light and shine it from both sides.. It happened to me on my 2002 with 63,000 miles. I found a used cooler on Ebay for 33.00. Mine used to leak only on long and fast hard drives, not on 12 miles commutes. I am no...

Pinhole leak in the radiator
R1150 2002
In my previous post I wrote about oil drops leaking from the Right radiator.
There is a pinhole leak in one of the vetical veins. These veins are made up of plastic.
How do you "solder" them?

Oil drops 'keep fallin' on my pants'
R1150R /2002 / 63,000 mi. I was used to oil drips from my beloved Royal Enfield in the late 70's. Drips were normal with any British bikes (leaks and creaks came free). But today my Oilhead acted a bit like the Enfield, bringing back cherished memories. Today I took the R1150 on a fast 150 mi ride. ...
