Re: R1200R - Lowered version

I have a lowered R1200R, and I previously had a lowered F800ST and F650GS. I have ridden the non-lowered versions of all the bikes and I haven't found significant handling differences. Putting the lowered bikes on the centre-stand is another story altogether - not a lot of fun. The F650 bottomed out...

Re: "me too"

The RR is my 3rd BMW and by far my favourite. I love the way she handles, the torque, the sound of the engine. I took her down to Pennsylvania in the rain last weekend and she handled it like a champ. The only complaint I have is that the stock headlight is pathetic. I've replaced it with a HID and ...

Wunderlich bags

Anybody have any experience with them. Seems a lot cheaper than the BMW alternatives.

Wunderlich bags

I was looking at adding a Wunderlich rear seat bag and a luggage rack carrier to my R-R. The BMW top case with luggage rack small is about $800CDN, and the large is about $1100. Which is way too much money - even if it says BMW. The Wunderlich seems like a saner solution as I've decided I don't want...

Annoying

I am dealing with BMW Durham - the salesperson swears he has checked the inventory across Canada. Only 2008 comes lowered, and I really want a lowered bike (both the R & the RT). I'm just annoyed that yesterday all was good and today all is bad. I think the RT will likely get sorted out - there ...

Re: Why I am upset with my local BMW salesperson

Is that better?

I will call the gentleman in Chicago - maybe I can make that work. Not so easy across borders.

Sigh.

Re: Beating a dead horse! R vs. RT

Well said. If you have the cash - buy the bike you love - if its an RT then go for it.

Why I hate BMW salespeople

 Yesterday was a great day - my husband and I went to the BMW dealership and sat on the bikes we wanted. Took them out for a ride. Figured out Farkles and Bling. The salesperson was very accomodating. We would be riding our new R & RT very soon. Bye bye F800STs. We were very happy. Today is...

Re: Bypassing the CAN-bus by direct wiring the accessory plug

My dealer keeps insisting that the accessory plug works with Gerbings gear as is - I know that it doesn't. I froze my b*&tt off last year because it didn't.

I will get it rewired before I pick up the bike.

Thanks for the help.

Re: What accessories are must haves on your 1200R?

Well my dreams are closer to a reality today. Some decisions made. 1) Will be buying an 1200R this week - don't know about delivery yet. 2) Will not buy side bags but will borrow (steal) my husband's because he doesn't need them anyway. 3) Ordered a parabellum 22" clear replacement screen - it ...

Re: sighting: r1200r beside *** building, Toronto

If it's worth anything - I plan to buy one and ride it around Toronto - if you see me wave.

Bypassing the CAN-bus by direct wiring the accessory plug

I have a bunch of heated gear that I know will NOT work with the accessory plug as wired. I do NOT want to buy all new BMW heated gear.

So I thought I might wire the accessory plug direct to the battery.

Has anyone tried this - does it work? Are there any drawbacks?

Re: Beating a dead horse! R vs. RT

Well that's exactly the plan - buy one of each - I can ride both and my husband can ride his.

Seems fair to me.

Re: What accessories are must haves on your 1200R?

A question about ESA?

I ride alone always - do I really need ESA - I tried it out but it didn't seem to make a huge difference on the demo rides I did on the R.

I can see the value if I was riding two up - but it's just me, myself and I on the bike.

Re: Beating a dead horse! R vs. RT

Well this is exactly the debate going around my kitchen table. My husband and I both own F800STs which we dislike - riding position, engine, the works. Our punishment for buying a bike without riding it. We were so excited by the reviews and the fact that we would have had a long wait if we insisted...

Re: What accessories are must haves on your 1200R?

Riding style - 600 mile days for a week or so are what I enjoy the most. Always on paved roads. Always one-up - no-one wants to ride behind a girl :) I had a Russell on my F650GS and loved it - might buy one but would wait until winter so that I can ride as much as possible. Being from Toronto we ha...

What accessories are must haves on your 1200R?

Off the top of my head I can think of: 1) windscreen 2 shields for the engine 3) an accessory plug that circumvents the CAN-bus and goes direct to the battery - so my Gerbing heated gear will work 4) tank bag Maybe: 1) a GPS - Zumo - not BMW 2) side bags 3) hand guards 4) extra lights Probably not: ...

Re: To buy an R1200R or not to buy an R1200R?

Thanks for all the good input. I am pretty certain I will buy the 1200R. There is a lowered version of the 1200R. The bike I took for a demo ride had the standard seat on the standard bike and I rode with the tips of my toes touching. The bike was so well balanced that it was no big deal. However I ...

Re: To buy an R1200R or not to buy an R1200R?

Well I'm a BMW bigot - I love the fit and finish. I won't ride a bike without ABS. I've learned that sitting straight up is what I need. Barbacks are no big deal if I need them. I ride alone alot - about 600 miles a day, so I need a bike that I can rely on. I'm 5'4" so the height of the bike is...

To buy an R1200R or not to buy an R1200R?

I currently ride a F800ST - which I do not like because of the seating position and the seat. I've had it lowered, moved the handlebars and am considering changing the windscreen. However that will not address the pain I have in my wrist and neck from the riding position. I rode a F650GS for 5 years...
