My fuel warning light comes on like clockwork at about 160 miles. I consistently get 43-45 mpg in mixed driving using 93 octane.

Re: One heated grip dead
Both my grips are now dead. They died separately. The dealer said the grips themselves need to be replaced. Parts for both are about $250 and then add 2.5 hours of labor. Does this sound right?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: GPS: To wire or not to wire... that is the question.
I strongly suggest that you do wire your GPS unit. See link. This is the setup I use for my Zumo 660. The Zumo is water resistant so I did not need the cover for the GPS unit. It works great. Easy off/on. I have it wired to my Battery Tender lead. Also can charge cell phone on the go. This is not th...

Re: Why do I sometimes get a puff of smoke at startup?
Have you drained the airbox lately? If it gets filled with enough oil it will do exactly what you are describing. I just had my beakster in for its 24k service. Would they normally drain the airbox as part of this service? They did install a new air filter. And okay...I don't even know what an airb...

Why do I sometimes get a puff of smoke at startup?
It seems like every fifth or sixth I start my beakster I get fairly good sized puff of smoke out the pipe. It may be happening more frequently lately. What could be causing this and is it anything to worry about?
Thanks for any help with this.

Re: I lost my mud flap. Do I really need it?
I went ahead and ordered a replacement mud flap from a local BMW dealer. Why? :smt017 Well I don't' really know why other than maybe I wanted to keep my beakster in stock condition. And I have heard that when riding in the rain without it the rooster tail will leave an oily streak down your back. O...

Re: I lost my mud flap. Do I really need it?
Thanks for the reassurance boxer and Taos. I wonder why BMW engineered this mud flap thing but not a 50 cent cap for the hole in the rear wheel to prevent the wheel bolts from rusting?

I lost my mud flap. Do I really need it?
Sometime over the past few months my rear adjustable "mud flap" must have fallen off. I just noticed it today. Do I really need this thing anyway? I had the bike to the dealer this week just for its 24,000 mile check. Come to think about it, they did install new rear brake pads. Is there a...

Any suggestions for removing boot scuffs from system cases?
My black BMW system cases have several scuff marks left by my boot heels. I have tried removing the scuffs with ArmourAll but this does not seem to work. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you.
Thank you.

DD...sounds like a joy. Maybe I'll double-up on my blood pressure meds before I try it.

I need to do this upgrade. Does anyone know how well the Smallparts disconnect units compare to the CPC chrome plated brass quick disconnects sold at Beemer Boneyard?

This heated grip failure problem must be spreading like a virus. First my throttle side went out and now the other side stopped working too. I am not very skilled at troubleshooting electrical problems but I would love to avoid going to the dealership if I can. Where do these wires usually break? If...

Still waiting for my front Michelin Pilot Road 2
Has anyone else had trouble getting a front Michelin Pilot Road 2 for their R1150R? I have been waiting over two months for the front while the rear tire was immediately available. Why do they advertise products that are not readily available?

Re: grip heaters and such
I am a novice when it comes to working on bikes...especially electrical issues. My throttle side grip heat is not working either. What is the most common problem when this occurs? Must the engine be running when I try to test to see if power is making it to the grip?
Thanks
