Re: Just got a R1150R
Congrats! Great price also! I'd put all new fluids in, unless the previous owner has records.

Re: New user, new to me bike
Hi and congrats! I have an 04 1150r also and I love it. I always roll the bike backwards a little bit to shift it from neutral into first. I've noticed that by rolling bike back just slightly, gears slide right in with no problems. So, that's what I've done the entire time I've had this bike. I have...

Re: Gear/Trans oil additive
Yeah, I haven't taken the bike apart to see the clutch. I should have read that we had a dry clutch though, haha. I think I read that the clutch splines should be lubed for maintenance (every 36? K miles). Seems like a ton of labor to just do some maintenance! I I had to watch a video on the proper ...

Re: Gear/Trans oil additive
Does the trans fluid lubricate the clutch splines?

Gear/Trans oil additive
Going to be changing out the final drive and trans with the Castrol 80w90 oil conventional oil and I saw a product called Lube Guard Limited Slip Supplement at O'Reilly's as well. Do you guys think adding this will be beneficial? It states it can be used in any GL-4,GL-5, or MTF.

Re: Replacing the battery on a 2003 R1150R
My original OEM battery just died on me about a month ago or so (04 1150r 34k). I have the BMW battery tender and had it hooked up throughout the winters in Chicago but now in SoCal, I'll just plug it in if I'm going to be busy for a week. Point is, I figure if a battery can last me from August of 2...

Soliton, you basically just sold me on the AX-Fied. Do you still have your cat on the bike with no muffler?

Re: drain lines from tank
Interesting. A few weeks ago when I was on the expressway, the bike felt like it cut fuel because there was a total power loss for about a second then it surged and rode normally. This happened when I was rolling on the throttle to change lanes. Maybe there is a problem with the fuel lines? The reas...

Re: drain lines from tank
To reply to my own thread... hahaha... I think I will probably just remove the canister. I guess the dealership was silently doing me a favor not reconnecting it! There is a slight smell of gasoline on the right side of the bike coming from the tube after a good ride but that's it. So, if that's all...

drain lines from tank
So, I've seen the posts on this but I couldn't find an answer to my question. I replaced the battery on the 04 1150r and when I took the tank off I saw the dealership I was using, instead of reconnecting the charcoal and drainage lines, zip tied them to the frame. http://www.r1150r.org/board/posting...

Re: Warm up time on an r1150r
I start mine with the choke all the way up and hold it there for about 5 to 10 sec on a cold start then let it fall to the high idle. I'll let it stay there for at least a min or so as I get my gloves and helmet on. After, I take off the choke and immediately ride away. When I first bought the bike ...

Re: Idling procedure
Since we are on this topic does it matter if my idle is not at 1150 and its oh lets say 800 or 900 ish???? maybe but definitely under 1000. I was told by my dealership guys that it didn't matter at all and not to worry about it. What do you boys think?

Re: Moose versus motorcycle
Hey, not to sound like Mr. Animal Rights and I am happy the guy is alive but seriously what was he paying attention to if he couldn't see 600 lbs. of moose in front of him. Let's be honest its not like a cheetah jumped into the road out of nowhere, it's an animal that might lose a race to a cow (ok ...

Service
Hey guys I have a 04 1150 R and I need the 18 k service done. I am having it done like everything else I have ever had done at the dealership and it's gonna cost me around $300. Is there a way for a guy like me (knows extremely little about mechanics but can follow pictures in chronological order) t...

Hey, after today you shouldn't have any major problems. It's great outside and as long as you don't go into the boonies of Illinois you will be fine.

rpm's for riding
So I am new to this board and I have had my 1150 R since 2003. I have put on almost 17k miles on it so far and I still am wondering what your rpm's are at normal cruising. I have always been riding the bike at 2500-3000 rpm's and when I was at the dealership the other day I was told that I had been ...
