Re: Do I dismantle my defenses hepco and becker?

I was not comfortable with my Hepco Becker crash bars for a couple of reasons. The dealer recomended them them but I did not like the protection they provided. I removed them, sold them and put on the set from Twisted Throttle. They use the same mounting locations, so other than protecting the cylin...

Re: BMWMOA Redmund Rally

Beer Garden, Friday night. I will be there. I am not sure about the carnation. If we arrive naked as Mollygrubber sugested I have nothing to pin my carnation to and my hands will be busy trying to maintain my modesty. 8-[ I will be at the rally on Wed afternoon. Black bike (the fastest color) with b...

Re: Parabellum Scout or windscreen upgrade?

I sat on Harry's bike at the National in WY and loved the entire effect of the scout fairing. Now I have one of my own. I am 5'8" but have 34" legs. I ordered the 18" screen and had problems with noisey air. I have cut it down 4 times trying to find clean air (2" at first the 1 &...

Re: Takeing a 1000 mile alone

I have found that I prefer to travel alone. In addition to the things already listed, I would rather deal with traffic by myself rather than worry about the person who is following me. The SPOT tracking device is a great idea. The MOA Anonymous is another great idea. As a woman I used to have some c...

Mark,

Still waiting on mine. Nevada at times seems to have it's own postal service. Or lack of service.

Re: Sudden Death Battery & Headlight Lens

Sorry, I just got back in town and somehow missed this message the last time anything was posted. The old battery was an Exide. New one is not. The new battery also does not have a manufacturer's name on it. The headlight lense was replaced but I could not get a SB from the lead mechanic. He indicat...

Re: Sudden Death Battery & Headlight Lens

I have a 2008 R12R with 9,000 miles on it.

Don, I will try and get the SIB number and post it here.

Thanks,

Sudden Death Battery & Headlight Lens

On Friday morning I pulled the bike out of the garage, put on all my gear, turned on the key and hit the starter. Phoof! There went the battery. I had tried to avoid the sudden death of the battery by being anal about rotating it to the charger during the winter months. So I called the dealer to see...

Re: R1200R Handguards - availability?

I was able to put the new 08 GS handguards on my 08 R12R. They are workable but you need to switch the left and right mounting brackets. The angle does not work out correctly unless you do that. Also, shimming material would be helpful for the mount to the inside portion of the handlebars. I used th...

Re: Introduction and question

My bike is a 08. I was not able to get any info from the dealer (service manager) other than it has to be cleared by their computer. Boy, am I glad I had the Centech fuse panel put on although I did have to listen to a vendor at a rally tell me how stupid it was and what a waste of $ to have it on t...

Re: Introduction and question

Welcome to the group. I also have found out that once the dealership sets your computer for it's next service, the service light will on every time you disconnect the battery. No big deal.....does not mean anything.....except you will not know if you do have an issue come up that needs service. :sho...

Joe, So sorry to hear about your mishap. You are cursed by youth and therefore should heal very quickly once you run thru the insurance crap. (am I allowed to use that word here?) Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom with us on riding, gear and places you have ridden. It is always fun to...

Re: Tools for the Road

Thank you everyone for your replies. You made me laugh. Don and Chitown, thank you for your pictures and storage locations.

Chitown, are you happy with the Pivot Head Torx Wrench Set in the blue bag? I have been looking at them but was concerned about strength with that pivot head.

Tools for the Road

Ok, the bike is home, cleaned and happy. I found what is being called a tool kit under the seat. I am used to having enough tools to disassemble the entire bike on the road. Either this tool kit on the r12 is magic and tools only appear as you really need them or I am going to be in a little...

Re: Another Proud Owner

Nippes, I do love this bike!!! and it has only been 40 miles. I couldn't stand not having it while the wait is going on for the parts so I went and retrived it from the dealer. I did not consider that they would remove the sport windshield since I am getting a taller one. Driving home in a windstorm...

Re: Another Proud Owner

In response to Chi'town: ABS, onboard computer, center stand, heated grips and the rest of the normal stuff that the dealers have ordered their stock of bikes to have. In addition the BMW bags and topcase (which I was not that wild about until the saleman unlocked it and took it off--Sweet! , I don'...

Another Proud Owner

Well, I also have fallen to the R12R sickness. I do mean this in the nicest way. I thought I wanted a 1200 GS but was concerned with the size. My ever helpful service writer sent me over to look at the R12R. Looks.....no big deal. Kinda of whimpy. Then I sat on it. Wow....fits nice! But it is naked!...
