I had good luck last year using Rustoleum Textured flat black, found it at Walmart. A little sanding and sprayed the whole lid. It came out great, and was not very expensive.

I had the same problem, the filter was rounded off and the wrench would not grab it. Went to Auto Zone and for about 6-7 bucks got a wrench with 3 tongs on it that tighten when turned counterclockwise. It worked great.

I had the same thing happen 2 weeks ago on my '03 R. Thought it was the filter plugged, but tried disconnecting then re-connecting the new QDs, and voila....no more screech. Sometimes the couplings don't seat completely and the valve is partially closed restricting the flow causing the pump to howl....

I just purchased a set from SW Moto. Great price, no shipping charge. I've only put about 250 miles on them, so the verdict is still out. So far, I really like them. I will be doing about 2,000 mile trip in June to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which should give them a good test. Let us know your decision...

Sorry to hear you feel you have to give it up, I too have a red '03. I would also be interested in the Sargent seat, and am in NE Ohio. Where is Thornton?

I just picked up a 2003 R1150R and can't wait for the snow to melt to ride...
