Re: Clutch issue

Having just seen this post I would add that a clutch that engages abrutly and the hard shift can be caused by the spline shaft on the transmission being very dry and contaminated (clutch dust). I have seen this on occasion in my couple of 100K miles on oilheads. The fix... lube the shaft. good luck...

Re: F800GT buyers?

I went from a 2004 R1150R to the 2013 F800GT. Pics and more on this thread : http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=27806 You can perhaps help me get this bike in perspective since you've moved from the RR to the GT as I am considering doing. I finally went down to the local dealer and to...

Re: Broken side bag latch.

I've had three of those latches break and it pisses me off that they used strong metal for the rest of the mechanism, but went cheap on the part that actually holds the bag on the bike. Like riceburner said, you'll have to buy the entire "multi-function" latch assembly, as the single fail...

Re: Clutch issue

Thanks Towerworker and cyclerob, Not exactly good news, but I expected something of the sort. I may just buy the new clutch slave from Beemer Boneyard. I don't want to go into it without a new one in my hand. And: Just as a side note to bleeding issues, I mentioned in another thread about my ABS lig...

Clutch issue

I'm having some problems with the clutch on my 2003 RR
It is slow to engage and disengage, and shifting feels heavy. I just bled it with no change. Think it has air in it or have I got a servo problem ?

Re: Cat Removal..?

Anyone got advice about this. I have an aftermarket exhaust can on order (for my 800R) which I understand will come with a link pipe to enable the removal of the cat. There appears to be a wire coming from the cat, which I assume is for the sensors for the fuel management (?) So should I just have ...

Re: BMW changes F800 series recommended engine oil viscosity

I don't know how the 800 motor will crank in cold weather with the 15/50, but my boxer is a little slow when it's below 40 degrees F.

kjax909 did that install I think, but I can't find the pictures. It looked like it should, not a basket ball perched on the rear rack. =)

Re: F800GT buyers?

I couldn't see why a 90 hp bike needs traction control, but what do I know? I have an F800GS, and in the rain on cold days I've broken the rear loose several times on slippery tar snakes while merging onto the highway. ESA would have been nice then, I still have pinch marks on my seat  I'm rea...

Re: Went for a ride today . . .

In my old home town of Minneapolis, the low tonight is supposed to be -21 F. I used to work the ramp at MSP on nights like this. I'm glad to be in the Pacific Northwest. My heated gear is off to Gerbing for rework, so I may forgo riding to work tomorrow, but it's not out of the question like it is ...

Re: This may be a "sensitive topic"...

I have a 2003, and I believe the seat was always low in the front and it caused me to slide into the tank. I used the 3/8" spacer under the front seat mount as well. That has leveled the seat enough so that I don't feel like I'm riding downhill all the time. The long term fix is an aftermarket ...

Re: F800GT buyers?

My 08' RT had ESA which really worked great for different riding conditions. Does the new FGT have that available? Yes it does have ESA as well as traction control. It's optional, and when I talked to the dealer about perhaps not buying ESA and traction control, he told me its difficult to find a G...

Re: F800GT buyers?

I loved my RT for long rides and short one's as well. At 550lbs it felt lighter then my R1150R. ST feels much lighter but I have only ridden one, not owned. I surely would consider the new GT if my bike fund was actually funded. You're right about the weight of the RT. Published weight of an ...

Re: F800GT buyers?

Cannot comment about the GT because I haven't ridden it, but our F800S/ST has proven effective for one-up touring with a couple caveats: lack of functional hard cases (appears to be remedied for GT), and weather exposure. Considering the cost involved with a new GT, I might look for a used RT to fu...

F800GT buyers?

Hi guys, I'm assuming that the GT will be included in this forum. I've been looking at the F800GT because it seems to be what I'm looking for in a touring bike. Lighter and better handling than my 03 R1150R. I have longer trips planned in Washington and Oregon next year, 1000 plus mile weekends. Th...

Re: New Naked

I'm in the market for a new bike as I've had mine 10 years, but the spoked wheels with tubes are a deal breaker for me. I had bikes with tubed tires back in the day, and the trouble I had got me really, really over anything with tubes in the tires. A guy at work actually plunked down a deposit, and ...

Re: Fuel Mileage

I got 38mpg consistently for years, but was careless about brands. About a year ago I decided to stick with three brands, Shell, 76, and Chevron. My mixed mileage now runs 42 mpg. If I would slow down I'm sure it would be better, but I can't. Trip mileage runs 48 to 51 mpg, still sticking with major...
